Suggestions for Maternity Shoot

August 1st, 2012
An acquaintance of mine asked me to do a maternity shoot for her and I'm excited, but I'm also terrified. I really want to do a good job (as I'd like to do more portrait shoots in the future but I need some advice. Can someone please tell me if I'm on the right track: I'm taking her and her husband down to the river in the early evening so we'll have some nice light. I was planning to use my Canon 50 mm 1.8, but I also have a kit lens - would you recommend the 50? I've never done this before, so any tips would be appreciated!

Try the kit first, then switch to your prime once lighting becomes poor.

I like to use both my kit and my 50....More so the kit because I like the ability to zoom. . I also enjoy looking on Pinterest for inspiration and ideas. There are alot of photos that you could use for a base on what you are looking to do, like poses and scenery and such. Good luck to you!
