background problem in CS5

August 17th, 2012
hey there...

so, my dog stepped on my keyboard and did something to my PS CS5. now, when i'm viewing an image the area around the image has turned black, and this is very annoying when i'm editing a black background image, ie i can't see where the edges are lol.

anyone know how to fix this back to the grey or whatever it was before ??

thanks, tadii :)

I've got CS6 now, so not 100% sure, but I think there are two ways:

1) right click on the background and I think you'll get some options

2) In Edit > Preferences menu, under Interface (?) you can set the background color.

If that doesn't do it, go to community.adobe.com and search the help docs and manuals and you'll find it there.

Much easier way is to use shift and F1 or F2. F1 darkens background and F2 lightens. Just hold down shift and repeatedly press required key. You can then set the background to suit a particular image.

@tonymcv1 neat trick! I just have mine set to a very dark grey and leave it like that, but good to know.
