How to use a welding glass as a big stopper

Well, why not? Seems like a neat idea to me. Could have a lot of fun with that green color cast.

I used a piece of welder's glass to photograph the transit of Venus a few months back. I'll have to give this technique a try!

These are the problems with it
1 The glass isn’t coated so is quite prone to flare
2 The glass shows up smudges and fingerprints really strongly
3 The edges can be quite sharp.

@simon0128 - That's ok. Use those "flaws" to your advantage. I'm not saying it's a direct replacement for a proper ND filter, but it seems to have its place. The example in the article seems a good example.

I wonder is with a second braketed shoot without the filter if you could mask in a red and blue channel... Maybe soften those channels to just bleed in a color with no real edges... I think i have a sunday project!
