Same insect - different colour in other environment

September 11th, 2012
I took a picture many pictures of a grasshopper while I was in Skopelos (Greece) in August.
I think it's the same insect (please correct me if it's not!), but has a different colour than in Germany. It's something about camouflage, isn't it?

The "greek version"

and the "german version"

Do you have examples for phenomenon? Please show me!

They are cousins...

Those are in different families, the first is an Acridid grasshopper probably the genus Schistocerca. The second is a Katydid in the family Tettigoniidae, not sure as to what genus. The true grasshoppers have short antennae, the katydids or bush crickets have long fine antennae. Often longer than their bodies.
