Profile pic

Has anyone else had a problem with uploading profile pic? The picture shows fine in the 'Manage Albums', 'picture' tab, but when I go back into 'Your Project, my profile pics shows side ways on, which is really annoying. I've tried deleting twice and uploaded again but still the same.

@trixiehiscock Hi Trixie... don't despair, it takes a little while to kick in for some reason. When I last did mine it appeared haphazardly for a few hours here and there, but it got to all the squares in the end. Fingers crossed anyway!
(The pic I am seeing is in the sunshine, with blue behind and you looking slightly left)

@Phil - thank you for that. Sounds like I'm only 'horizontal' on my screen then!!! Was just worried that, as a photographer, a lopsided picture would make me look abit unprofessional. Thanks for replying so quickly. Will just hope it sorts itself out. Many thanks.

@trixiehiscock No worries, you're definitely right-way-up on my screen! Hopefully the other screens will catch up soon :)

@trixiehiscock I found that I had to clear my cache for it to display the new image - had me baffled for a while too! Hope that helps :)

It's because of how web browsers behave, to try and make things faster. When you visit a site, they store all the associated files, such as the images used to make up each page, locally on your PC; it's called a cache. The next time you go to view the site, your browser sees it has the images with the same filenames in its cache, so it doesn't bother downloading them again, and the page loads faster.

So, when you change your profile picture, the browser sees it still has an image file with that name in its cache, and doesn't go to fetch it again - it doesn't know it's changed. After a certain period of time it'll realise the cached image has been there a while, and go check for a new one itself, or you can force this by just clearing your cache as Katharine mentions.

Yeah science!
