Which versions?

September 29th, 2012
I have recently started using photoshop CS6 to be precise. I knew you could add brushes and so I set out to find some and got got close to a gigabytes worth only to find that they don't work in my current version. Perplexed I set out to find why and while researching I came across something that interests me. I found a forum post where people were declaring which versions of photoshop they were using and majority of them were using more than one version and some of them were using four of five different versions. Obviously there must be features that are different in each version so I'm hoping some of my fellow 365rs can help shed some light on this.

So... What versions of Photoshop elements - cs - etc are you using and what are the unique features that keep you using more than one version if you are?

@shirljess I would save yourself some money, get down a charity shop and pick up some cheap digital photography books most modern books have a section devoted to photoshop basics, once you are grounded in them I can almost promise you that the rest of the programme won't seem so daunting. Also an easy way to use photo shop is get some plug ins such as colour efex, they are very much preset and tweak.

I have had photoshop CS5 and just upgraded to CS6. All my brushes, plugins, etc still work in CS6. The only thing that didnt work was one action that I use to make silk ribbons for my digital scarpbooking. @shirljess Shirley: I agree with @ayearinthelifeof once you master the basics you are up and running. A copy of Photoshop Classroom In A Book would be a good investment. I also have one on mastering layers....email me and if I can find my CS5 version of Classroom In A Book you can have it. I may have deleted it but if I find it, it's yours :)

@ayearinthelifeof I do have Photoshop Elements 10 as well but I dont use it so I didnt mention it. Elements has some guided processing techniques that you can do.. really just like actions but they come already installed. The filters are a little different and Elements has a few (read here lots) less tools that CS5 or CS6. If you had Elements and the plug ins from OnOne and Nic then I think you would have everything you want. There are not as many free downloads that work with Elements either. Probably should have told you all this in my first post I guess...sorry.
