I pass by a small downtown park on my morning walk to work. Last week I was blown away by the beauty of the autumnal feel, the leaves were a brilliant yellow, on the trees, and ground. I vowed to return when I had time to take some photos. All week I thought about it. But, I was running late, or it was raining, or I was just plain lazy.
This morning, I woke up early, caught an earlier bus, had my camera ready, even selecting which lens to use. I was pumped and ready to go get my visualized and imagined AWESOME SHOT!
The first problem....Park Maintenance! LOL! Half the park was now green grass, not a leaf in sight! Looking across the street to the other half of the park, I reckoned I had just enough time to get some shots. The maintenance guys were there, but not yet raking, blowing, etc.
I quickly got into a position for the desired shot. Perfect! Until I turned on the camera! I had inadvertently hit something on the function button. (The night before I'd formatted the memory card, it must have happened then. )
Luckily, I had my p&s, and got some "okay" shots.
I am now sitting with my manual and figuring out what setting I changed.
And laughing. And waiting until next fall!
The moral of my story....take the shot and don't delay!
I guess it wasn't meant to be. I wouldn't worry about it because when one door closes another opens. Keep your camera ready and keep your mind open to other possibilities.
I learned the same lesson last week Lisa. There was this beautiful sunset, amazing the way the light danced on the clouds. So many vivid colors and depth. I knew a spot I thought would make a great composition and tried to get there as fast as I could. I watched color after color disappear in the sky with every red light I got stuck at. Finally, close to the area I wanted, I saw this beautiful scene of dark silhouetted trees with a deep blue sky and thick ribbon of deep crimson through the trees. Should have stopped and snapped, but I kept going. Thinking if I can just get to the spot I had on mind. When I finally got there, sunset was done. Just black. So....lesson learned. Take the photo when you see it. Don't wait. Lol
This doesn't directly address the "take it when you see it" comment, but, I just texted my wife that I was tired of seeing the great pics others get of the sunrise(S). I have to get up and get somewhere (very nearby golf course, very close huge cemetery, very close by pond) and just "be there" ... stop wishing and start doing.
@nanalisarocks I just read my comment and it was poorly worded. the "...stop wishing and start doing." comment was aimed at ME ... and in no way at you. Yish, I apologize!
