Compress or upload from the camera

December 31st, 2012
Hi and an early happy new year.

As a newbie to this site (been carrying the Xmas pressie camera for 4 days now and love looking at others photos), I've notice that a lot of photos are uploaded "raw" with all the meta data and some have been compressed (losing all the data and making the photos less "steal-able").

What is the etiquette/best practice on uploading photos?

Many thanks and looking forward to another 361 days of taking photos...

Hi there you cannot upload a RAW file as its how your camera captures the maximum amount of data. When you save the file on your computer you have to select a file type and for this site you can only upload in JPEG and it depends on the editing software you use as to what data is saved and subsequently uploaded. This is a fairly basic answer but I hope helps and in most cases people will choose to upload all the EXIF info as it helps you to learn from some of the most talented shooters from all over the world.

EXIF info has definitely helped me to improve my photography so I would be very disappointed if it wasn't there. It has helped me to experiment with the settings of my camera that I probably would never have used without it. I don't think people on 365 steal other's pics as it would be just cheating ourselves. There would not be a lot of point taking pics each day to improve if we stole others and uploaded them as our own so I don't think you should worry about that. Everyone on this site seems to be genuinely nice people and I always appreciate the support and help from others. Welcome to the site

Looks like your question has already been answered, but just wanted to say WELCOME! Happy to be your first follower :)

I try and upload files with the Exif data as some people like to see it, but some edit programs remove it without asking.
