Nikon D3000 manual mode

I can't work out how to adjust aperture in the manual mode...can adjust shutter speed but can't seem to find how to shift that to aperture

no clue in the user manual!

any ideas?

It should be the same as the d40. after you set the shutter speed, press and hold the (+/-) button on the top of the camera next to the shutter release. There should be a gray icon next to it showing a picture of an aperture. While you are pressing this, spin the dial left or right to adjust the aperture.
