Canon PowerShot SX500 IS

My poor Kodak EasyShare M550 bit the dust when I dropped it and I was looking for a comparable replacement. Since Kodak is now out of business here, I found a comparable one but it's price tag was $299.99 when I looked at it. It's dropped $50 but still a bit high. Hoping to get this week somehow. I wanted opinions on anyone who uses this type of camera. Is it a good camera? Is it easy operating? Is it plug and play with computers so you just hook up the USB and it takes pictures off the camera to directly put them on PC or do you need software? Suggestions? Opinions?

@prttblues I haven't used this particular one but have used two Canon PowerShots and highly recommend them. Both of mine have just plugged in and taken the photos directly onto the computer with no extra software needed. My present PowerShot SX210 IS has a great zoom and an excellent macro setting; I imagine the model you're looking at would be even better.

@prttblues Morning! I don't know the camera you're mentioning, but I've looked up my P&S on Amazon.com and found this

It fits into my pocket, I'm very pleased with it - the zoom is great, the macro good but not as good as my old canon ixus... can't find that in US but when I searched it brought up a canon elph which looked very similar.
I tend to take the card out of the camera and put it into a card-reader which plugs into the USB, but the powershot can connect directly to the computer. Happy shopping!

I considered buying one of these recently. According to the notes I made about it, this model packs the largest zoom into the smallest size and is quite good value for the money. The cons are that it has quite a problem with chromatic aberration ( http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/canon_powershot_sx500_is_review/image_quality/), and its battery life is below average. Otherwise, very versatile and user-friendly, not a bad little number.

I ended up not buying it though, as I came across a smokin hot deal on a Nikon P7100. But the SX500 was high on my list. Looks like you could have a lot of fun with it. Why not check your store's return policy? You could buy one and try it out for a few days, and if you found that you hated it, you could just take it back. :)

Good luck!

I used to Canon powershot and I loved it. I have seen wonderful pictures on 365 with it. Maybe go to the camera store and check the various cameras out before you buy/order one.
