I am not very good at it, and I wish that I had read this article before I traipsed from one end of NYC to the other with the 30 lb camera bag. I am a bit sore today :(
Yeah Im with you. I have way to many rabbit trails to carry just one. but its a great idea. I will say when we go hiking I do try to take one with a few lenses.
I think my bag had more personal stuff yesterday than camera equipment.

-One Olympus Pen Camera (almost recovered from being dropped on icy asphalt
48 kleenex clean, which quickly switched to used
-one iphone
-one set of headphones
- 1 sunglass case
-1 hat
-1 sets of gloves
- 1 winter coat in bag
- 1 brush
- 1 wallet
- 1 set of heavy wool socks
- 1 tank top in bottom as an extra layer
- one extendable table top triopod
If I am normally going out on a field trip I usually bring the dslr with the macro and wide angle lenses only (do I miss photos, yup, do I get over it, yup). One cloth for wiping lenses, wallet, iphone/headphones, one film camera and two rolls of film. Oh and a small flashlight.
I hate the weight of my bag so I downscale a lot. yesterday was a rarity of overpacking for me.
Brilliant. Although mind you when I go on holiday (especially this month) I will have a film camera and a digital camera as I am using film this month for my main album and using my film & digital camera for my holiday album as when I hope to see the Aurora Borealis seeing what you have taken is an advantage.
@phillyphotos Paula, lol lol! that was definitely more than what i had! hope you are feeling better @aprilmilani i am trying to figure what i want to take on vacation next month...I have to whittle it down. @la_photographic I think i need to leave the film camera at home for my vacation although I might take the diana mini that is so light.
