I think my old digital camera is dying...any techhies out there?

October 2nd, 2010
I religiously use my now 9 year old Nikon D1H for most of my work, simply because it takes better images than my newer Nikon.

Dilemma... since about July, some images it shoots either do not record to the CF card, or the CF card did not record them.

Not sure if it is the CF card or the camera.

I am doing a photo shoot of some WWII Veterans this month on a trip to Washington, DC, and I need this thing dying like a hole in the head. I do not want to drag a bunch of cameras with me, as it is an Airport nightmare.

Any experience or suggestions?

(I keep asking myself why I ever put my 30 year old Pentax K1000 in storage. It will never let me down)

took the Pentaxx K1000 or the other Nikon as backup

have you tried the cf card in another camera to determine whether it's the camera or the card?

I've had a battery connection issue cause intermittent corrupted files on my D200. But I'd probably start with testing a second CF card.

I only have the one camera for a CF card. The other one takes an SD card. Will likely take it to a camera shop (they have a real one here, not the retail chain crap) and check it out. Taking a film camera for sure,

Definitely first thing to do is to try another, known good CF card in your camera.
Good luck, hope it isn't the camera.

Have you tried doing a scan of the card ? I love the K1000....great camera ! Mine got stolen last year.....had it for about 20 years ! Time to buy another one !! BTW....how many shots on the camera ?

I just sold my K1000! It was 39 years old and still working a treat.
My D1H died in a similar fashion, it became unreliable with the card, then got worse.

CF card is ok. The geek said, it may be a firmware problem. That means to me "blah blah blah blah". So, I may be planning a funeral.

In the meantime, it never hurts to use my trusty 30 year old and works great Pentax that cost a whopping $130 with lens. Provia film purchased and in the fridge.

Technology...Ssssspppppppppppllllll. Keep it.
