So i was secretly hoping my lighthouse made it into the top 20 this week which would have been my 1st time but it didnt lol So looking through the amazing shots i see views & favs less than mine so how does that work,Is it comments? Totally confused & definetly not gonna get my hopes up again.
All the shots are amazing but i notice its the same people most weeks except for a few new ones.
So confused. :o[
Thanks for any insight x
Yeah i thought that but still the amounts dont make sense to me. There are loads of my friends stunning shots with much more of these too. I could understand if it was like the theme just Ross picking his favs but its not.
@blightygal Awww no hun dont be sorry at all, Im just really confused by it all I love every shot in the top 20 & they deserve to be there. Ive just never saw an explanation about it thats all x
I'd rather not be up there if someone else should be, if you know what I mean! Doesnt seem very fair. Ahhh, who knows, its all mysterious and I suppose its entertaining that it keeps us guessing ;-)
Carole, please don't let these sorts of things get you down. The worth of your work does NOT depend on how many people just happen to stumble on it here and fav or comment on it. At the end of the day, that's all it is; getting views is by chance. There is plenty of "undiscovered" talent on here that will probably never even make the popular page, but that doesn't mean they aren't any good. That's not to say that the photos that do get picked aren't all incredible in their own way, but it shouldn't make anyone feel inferior.
@indiannie_jones Im fine Annie lol was just kinda hoping & i wasnt sure how they were chosen.I agree i find someone amazing nearly everyday & they can have very few comments. x
Don't rely on the fickleness of others (and the system) to to determine your self esteem. If I were creating the algorithm, I think I would take into account how popular the person was. Some people regularly get 20+ comments a day, while others only get one or 2. Otherwise the person with the 20+ comments would always be on the popular page and the others wouldn't get a chance, even if they took a better picture. So I would divide something by the number of followers.
Actually I'm glad I don't have to come up with the formula, because it seems so complicated!
Carole--I'm not sure how it works either. I loved your lighthouse, and you're right, it got tons of Faves/views. You take really good photos. (: There's been times I've put 110% into a photo and it barely got commented on, and other times I've posted a photo I felt so-so about and it ended up on the Top 20. It's a mystery.
Ok, I don't know why but i missed this one of yours even I follow ALL your photos?!?!?! It is a great shot and I love it. I've no idea how the stuff on here is worked out but I know I like seeing what you come up with every day. And that's the thing, there are so many people coming up with great shots day in day out without fail. And that's pretty amazing really!
One thing I notice about the Top 20 is a certain richness of color and sharpness of image. It isn't just the composition but the quality of the image. There is generally a professional look to the top pictures.
I don't understand how it didn't make it,I went back to week 1 and this is what was written;
The list is compiled from data collected from the site, including favs, comments and views. Any photo on the site can make it in to this chart, not just photos added recently, maybe we'll see some older photos have a revival?
I do want to thank everyone who thought my humur theme photos were funny and even stuck their necks out to say so! At the time things got pretty heated & I tried to stay out of it, but I really did appreciate everyone who liked my photos. You rock! Thanks again!
@kirsty Yeah when i read that criteria i got my hopes up Kirsty then when i looked at the top 20 i did get dissapointed but it just seems silly as I know its not that important.
Thanks to all of you for commenting on my lighthouse xXx
@shelina I agree that the algorithm should include number of followers ... for the popular page too. I think we would see more photos from a larger variety of people. Which would be refreshing.
There certainly is a twinge of excitement seeing my photo on the PP, and a quiet disappointment when I don't. It doesn't drive this project for me, but I have often wondered about these same things. I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses, too :) Love ALL of everyone's pics... I love seeing a piece of your lives and your creativity!
