So I figured out how to create a decorative watermark; however when I tried to put it on a photo on my laptop it leaves a white square around it even though it was saved as a transparent layer, this however doesn't happen when I use my PC. Arggg! Any ideas ? Anyway here is the mark I created- may not use this particular one, but at least I know what I'm doing now (kind of):
A gif won't work well at all. gifs can only have one transparent colour, and don't do partial transparencies. You definitely need to be saving as a PNG and making sure any "take transparency from current layers" options are ticked.
Just checked @azza_l and yep, tucked away under Edit in the main menu bar there's Edit Watermarks down the bottom, so it can do them, but I'm not 100% sure on the end-to-end process.
@nyweb I don't know what editing software you use but I use paint shop pro x2 and it is pretty easy. in paint shop you don't use layers there is a watermark section and you click add visible watermark. To create the design I found a free clip art border used the background eraser tool to take out the white which leaves you with a transparent area with the clip art design. I saved the designed and exported to paint brushes. Then I open a new project, sized the area that I wanted and clicked to make it transparent. I used the paint brush designed I previously made on the area, the pick tool to make it the size I wanted and then added text. As I previously stated where I was having trouble was getting the design to remain transparent when I added to an image. I tried Jinx's suggestion of saving as a .png and it worked beautifully. Hope this helps :)
@jinximages --- good info, thanks.
