Q. about controling contrast w/ camera

So I am reading a book on portrait photography and it mentions about setting your contrast to a minimal in your camera. How does one control contrast with ones camera?

I can give you more infor if you need it... this applies to those shooting jpg... raw... is raw and you set this later (Kinda... for those who want to argue which camera do what in RAW... this is basically right)

but why does it tell you to do this? If you are aiming for SOOC shots (I thought you were in that camp... but I forget) you want to set the camera to do the editing for you... so you do not need to do it later...

@icywarm i am not sure. doesnt make sense to me why they would want to do that i am not sure i like the book and now that you mention it i went back and re-read it and the author says you can always add contrast later and its better to do that then have to reduce contrast. No i definitely want to get as close to perfect shots in camera so i have to do minimal editing afterwards. I am glad you sent me the link you did though because i am really wanting to to know how to use all the controls on my camera. Been trying to figure out what i wanted to get started on first and now i think I am going to start playing around with contrast and learn that. Off i go to study it..... btw i shoot in raw 100% of the time just cause i like the fact its not compressed. Just starting out learning so i have no idea why else raw is better than jpg
