My son broke his pocket camera recently. Now he is travelling to London for a week and has asked to borrow mine. In a weak moment I said yes.........and now I wonder how to manage without my small camera, the one I put in my purse every morning and bring with me all day, my third eye, my help to see the world in new ways.
I still have my big camera, my very good Nikon, but it is so unconvenient to bring with me every day. I do have a quite good one on my new HTC Desire cell phone, but I am not used to it yet.
Do you bring your camera with you all the time? How many cameras do you have? Do you ever move without one?
I try to always have my DSLR with me. But the size is an issue sometimes. For that I have a few smaller point and shoots that I've accumulated over the last few years. But my phone is often a substitute for a camera. Its ALWAYS with me, and the quality is fairly good.
I find that when I do carry my bigger camera around I'm often glad I did. And after awhile I don't even notice it.
I used to carry my P&S with me EVERYWHERE at ALL TIMES! LOL But, it was taking terrible pictures (several years old) and that is when I got my DSLR. No money to buy a new P&S along with the DSLR... so, I got used to carrying it with me whenever I knew I would want to take pix... But, you're right, its really bulky. For the last 6-8mos, I have been using my cell phone for "backup" when I haven't grabbed my Canon Rebel... Its a great camera for a cell, and takes great shots in most conditions - about as good as my old P&S did. So, I always have a camera of SOME kind with me... and usually, I do have the Canon - especially since starting 365!
I carry with Canon S90 with me almost everywhere. it has manual settings like a D-SLR, and can shoot in RAW. I don't think I'd be able to do this project without it.
Maybe (now here's a crazy idea) you could let him take the dslr instead?
I don't take my dslr anywhere with me (in other words, to the supermarket or to work) but I always have a small p&s that's not half bad. And not to mention my phone, which I like using actually, because I feel awkward taking pics in public
.....well, my son just left, with the pocket camera.....I feel naked.....though tomorrow I plan to go out photographing with my big Nikon..............
I just started bringing my DSLR to work. I keep my 18-55mm on the camera and bring my 50mm for low-light shooting. I have a big purse and toss both into that. I also ALWAYS have my iPhone with me, and I shoot with it often. I also have a p&s that I bring on the days when I don't feel like toting my DSLR but want something more dynamic than my iPhone. There were times I used to leave the house without a camera, but now I try never to go anywhere without one.
I have a D90 which i find to bulky to bring with me everywhere and my mobile phone doesn't take to good a photo so i am treating my slef to a good point and shoot wiht shop shop vouchers i won :-D
In the meantime; I don't take my SLR anywhere unless specifically to use it, so I make do with my naffy phone camera, which right now is a lame 5mp "Cybershot" jobber on my SE c902. Soon the rather nice 8mp jobber on a Desire HD though... come on contract, hurry up and expire...
Being a mom i'm used to carrying a big purse anyhow, and for my birthday I got a nifty camera bag that looks like a funky sling purse that i throw my wallet and keys in, but also houses my DSLR and one lens. I hardly notice the extra bulk. The times where I "dress up" and wear a smaller pretty purse, I find i really miss having the camera though. But for everyday I have my camera all the time.
Depends where im going . If im going any where but work Ive always got my SLR with me . But i always have my canon sx210 canon in my bag. It has a brilliant 14 x optical zoom also image stabilizer with manual settings . Its like having my SLR with me in the bag at all times. Love love love it .
I also have 2 other smaller little cameras which i use for back up or just to have lying around for a quick grab n run. Yes some ppl have shoe fetish where i have a camera fetish lol
I have a camera on me at all times...or I feel a little lost and edge. If I don't have my slr, I have my phone cam. I feel like I am always checking my shoulder for the strap or my pocket. I think I look odd as I exit any location! A 365 twitch that has developed, maybe?
@vikdaddy Eep! I think 300 smackers is more than I can afford to splash on a "just in case" camera, let alone however much the S95 is... but then maybe that means a price drop is in order for the S90...
A shoe fetish @liipgloss , now that's more my kind of talking! Let's not get it twisted though - by shoe I mean trainer (or sneaker, not sure what you upside-down folk call them) :p
Also, females clearly have an advantage here - you get to carry around handbags with plenty of room for cameras in there. No such easy camera carrying solution for us poor men folk ._.
@brittarnhild yes those phones do take great shots , they have a flash on them .
@eyebrows we call them Joggers but i knew what u was talking about. Yes a handbag is an advantage but most of the times i have the camera in my jeans pockets . Always quick and handy to get out then lol
@liipgloss I carry mine in my shorts or jeans pocket too. I dressed up a couple nights in the last two weeks, and didn't know where to put the camera in the tiny purse. Have to shop for a bigger purse now.
Since I have my DSLR (october),I only used my P&S once.I keep trying to sell it,but now I think maybe I should keep that too? (it`s a Samsung ES-67,bought it this summer,in Belgium)....hmmmmm
I have a camera with me always. Usually not the dSLR, unless I *think* I might find myself somewhere interesting with potential photographic shots to take.
I always carry my camera in my purse...it's been that way for me since high school. Before this project it was mainly just in case I wanted to snap a shot of friends or some strange occurrence. Now it's because I never know when I may feel inspired by something. In my case, I only have a p&s camera, so it fits nicely into whatever purse or bag I am carrying at the time, and I think that makes it easier to always have it around.
I nearly always have a DSLR with me. I'm jut so used to taking it everywhere I go. I've considered buying a compact (Lumix is at the top of my list) but I think the loss of DSLR capabilities would bother me. Certainly, it can be done, and discreetly too! :)
I used to bring my DSLR everyday but it's too big. It's hard to go back to p&S after you've been using a DSLR so I bought the Sony Nex-5 which is similar to DSLR but mirrorless and compact and has interchangeable lens. I bought an adapter for it so I can also use my Canon lenses. So I carry the Sony everyday and use my DSLR only when I need to.
I bring my Canon 7D with me everywhere. I bought an inexpensive camera bag that looks like a purse from Best Buy. I carry my wallet and phone and keys in there. (and sometimes mascara and lip gloss.) And I still have room for my DSLR with one lens attached, and one in another divider in the purse. It makes carrying the big camera super easy. (and no one realizes all that can fit! it's not like it's a huge bag or anything)
I have my DSLR, which of course is great when you're intentionally out taking photos. But because I usually have my two young daughters with me, I prefer something lighter to go casually out and about (I have a Sony Cybershot for that). And lately, because I'm so weighed down with baby, I have been using my cell phone camera a lot. Crap quality, but at least it records the moment I don't want to lose to some extent.
This hits the stores in March(ish)... fixed lens, but I think it will be like walking around with a ranger finder again... which was nice (except the film changing part(I never had enough fingers)
Once I have this my DSLR maybe retired as my walk around camera, to my I have a reason for carrying this brick.
@brittarnhild maybe buy a 'cheapish' 35mm automatic film camera. Most are small and light. Toss some Kodak 800 film in there and it is good for those, had to be there moments.
@liipgloss It's awesome!! The other thing I bought off of etsy is a camera strap. It's black with white polka dots, and has black organza flowers sticking out on it. I figure that way I never have to worry about my husband borrowing my camera!!
i live in a dorm, so I don't bring my dslr everywhere with me, nor my little olympus, i mean if a picture is that dire, I usually just take it on my phone, otherwise, I just take a photo when I can, usually when I got for my walks in the afternoon, that's when I'll bring my dslr
