Has anyone used a teleconverter on Nikon 3200? I have a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 55-300mm 1.45-5.6G ED lens but would like to get "nearer" to wildlife on a trip coming up shortly. A 400 lens looks way too heavy for me as I have neck problems. Any suggestions for a very amateur photographer would be appreciated. I also have a shorter zoom to 200mm. thanx
@barneyone I don't think there is a Coolpix 610. There is a Coolpix P600 with a x60 zoom which with the small sensor size gets you something like an equivalent 1400mm. It could work for you, but don't expect tack sharp images at long zoom.
The D610 is a full frame DSLR, and you'll need a long (and heavy) lens, and I don't think that's what you want. Teleconverters will only fit on certain full frame (expensive and already heavy) lenses and a x2 version will not auto focus reliably on your D3200 except with the super heavy (4 pounds) f/2.8 70-200.
@frankhymus thanks Frank it is the Nikon P610 which I have been reading reviews of, it is confusing that there is a full frame DSLR with similar model number. I think you are right that I am not going to get a teleconverter to fit. Thanks for taking trouble to answer, much appreciated.
Hi @barneyone, I have the same lens as you but a Nikon D3100 and a Jessop 2X teleconverter without any electrical connections. It works fine but everything has to be in manual including the focus and there is no aperture control or metering which can make it tricky to use. With teleconverters it reduces the amount of light so exposure times go up quite a bit, so not much good on anything moving. Hope this helps :-)
