I'm debating on picking up a bridge camera. It would be nice to have for a trip I am taking leaving Wednesday. I am looking at the insane zoom ones since wildlife will be my goal outside of the fact that this is a work trip.
I am mostly considering the Nikon P900 or P610. They have very similar specs across the board and seem to be using the same sensor. The big difference it the zoom and the weight. The P900 has an 83x optical zoom 2000mm 35mm eq and weighs in at about 32 oz or a little under a kg. The P610 is 60x optical zoom, eq to 1440 in 35mm. It is just shy of 20 oz, 2/3 the weight of big bro.
For comparison my primary camera is a Nikon D5200 and I have a few lenses for it, topping out at the 300 mm which is 450 in 35mm.
Anyone using the P900 yet? What about the P610? Advice? Oh, price wise the P610 is $450 and the P900 is $600.
Well no responses. I ended up grabbing a Nikon L840. No where near the camera of the other two and it really wasn't even one I was considering. But, Nikon has a $100 instant discount on it. That made it $200. 38x zoom equal to 840 mm. I don't like that there is a very limited set of options. No P, A or M modes and no control over the ISO. But for $200 I thought it was worth a try.
I'm sure it will do a great job fir you . I went through a similar experience , having a Nikon D5000 and some lenses I needed a smaller lighter camera for travelling and everyday use, ended up buying a Nikon Coolpix P7800. A lovely little camera with a lot of the settings I'm used to and that you mention.
