HELP please - displaying photos in an office as advertising

December 19th, 2010
Many of my photos are nature / animal related. I am a veterinarian, and a former coworker has recently opened his own practice. He would like to use my photos to decorate his exam rooms and/or lobby. I'm really excited about this opportunity! He will be glad to keep my business cards on hand, and give them to anyone interested in the photos.

So, a couple of questions... in an arrangement like this, where I'm displaying for advertising purposes, who pays for the prints / framing? Do I supply prints, he supplies framing? Does he pay for all of it? Do I pay for it all?

Also, if you are willing, could you look at my site and comment on any photos you think would be good for a veterinary office? Please keep in mind that this is a large (farm animal and horses) and small animal veterinary clinic.

Thanks!

(the "animals" and "landscapes" albums are the main two I'm thinking of for this particular setting... but possibly some of the sunset / sunrise photos as well?)

I would suggest that since he asked to display your work in his office, I would supply it all at a nicely reduced price, since you may benefit from the advertising.

Have you considered offering to pay for the prints and getting quick release frames of the frames... and you can sell those prints... and have a few more there for him to put up if one sells? I have seen this in a number of coffee shops and more and more offices...

When doing a display I always pay for everything, but they also sign a contract stating that they won't display another photog's work while mine is displayed, that the display will be up for a minimum of six months, and that after that time they have to provide one month's notice if they wish the display to be removed. Also, that I still own all the artwork and fixtures, so they absolutely cannot keep any of it unless they pay for it. However, if they are asking me for photos to display, I discount the artwork and release it to them (they own it), but still with the ocndition that it will be displayed for a minimum six months.
