Christmas Dinner.

December 25th, 2010
Here's what I'm cooking for seven people as we do not like roast turkey.

Lobster and prawn cocktail

Game(Scottish venison and rabbit) casserole in red wine with roast and mashed
potato ( note the spelling Mr. Quayle) and seasonal root vegetables.

Trifle - I made my own sponge tonight, will make my own jelly from fresh fruit
tomorrow, custard made from egg yolks, milk, cream and vanilla pods, topped
with my own made chantilly cream.

What do you guys have for Christmas dinner?

P.S. It's just past midnight here, so happy christmas to everyone in the nicest most positive community on the internet

Happy Holidays to everyone!!!
You sound like you're going all out--my chef's hat is off to you (:
We have nothing planned for our Christmas dinner yet. I like to cook, but nobody is a really big eater here, so keeping it simple just works the best. I might make a vegetable soup and some homemade bread. Kind of boring, I guess!

December 25th, 2010
@nikkers Good gosh--now I just feel waaaay boring. Are you planning to come out of the kitchen before 2012? Have a great holiday, Nikki

Fantastic dinner, Paul. I'm not preparing a Christmas dinner tomorrow (I don't think).

@clarissajohal We're going to my sister's for soups, salads and sandwiches. I'm making the bread for the sandwiches and making a meat (ham, salami, turkey and cheese) and a pressed vegetable (I can't remember what it's called, but there is a particular name) sandwich with artichoke hearts, roasted vegetables, cheese, olives (either tapenade or just olives) and maybe a marinated bean mixture. You can never tell how elaborate the simple soups, salads and sandwiches will be.
December 25th, 2010
We always have pasta -- spaghetti in meat sauce or some variation of that. It's been tradition since I can remember since my whole family is Italian.
December 25th, 2010
Wow, sounds delicious! I just made lasagna and garlic bread. Tomorrow might be leftover lasagna LOL.

Sunday we have to family parties and then the feast will begin!
December 25th, 2010
@clarissajohal lol. Did most of it today, so all I have to do tomorrow is shove the bird in the oven and do the spuds.. and sit back and let the oven do the hard work...Merry Christmas to you and yours Clarissa.....
December 25th, 2010
Our tradition is to bake a ham and to make sandwiches.. Rye bread, potato salad and finger foods.. Lots of sugar and candy, lol.. That way folks can graze for as long as the food lasts.. We keep the day simple so no one has to stress out and we can just enjoy the family time..

@weshook ~ those pressed sandwiches are SO good..

I'm making lasagna tomorrow at my mom and dad's house. I made the home made marinara for it yesterday. I also have dough for french bread in the 'frig to rise overnight.
We usually do traditional, but this year opted for somewhat simple. Mom wanted beans and cornbread. I said, "No way" and offered to make lasagna.
Merry Christmas!
December 25th, 2010
I had chicken pie, salad, flour less chocolate mousse cake and champagne.
Merry Christmas to you.
December 25th, 2010
Awww, you guys are so interesting!

Erm, we're kickin' it Cypriot style here with souvla, haha :D

But only because my parents are here this Christmas... I'd usually spend xmas with my sister, her hubby and his family, which means a very English lunch, complete with Yorkshire pudding, mince pies and gammon.
December 25th, 2010
We always have turkey, sprouts, carrots, parsnips, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, green beans, gravy etc. Only thing is, I'm vegetarian except chicken (parents force me to eat it ¬.¬) and I don't really like potatoes or carrots or anything like that so I end up having sprouts, beans, a little turkey and half a parsnip :')
Then we have Christmas pudding and set it on fire and all that jazz...I don't like that either though so I have a piece of fruit =p and my brothers don't like it so they have the birthday cake left over from my brothers party!
Very traditional in our house :p

Amazing array of food. Great thread! We'll be having turkey (not my favourite but my step dad doesn't do Christmas without turkey!) Bread sauce, stuffings, sprouts, roast potatos, carrots, brocolli all washed down with pink champagne! About half way through eating my sister will be presented with her vegetarian meal because we will have forgotten to put it in the oven early enough (if she's really unlucky we won't have remembered until we dished up!) And of course the obligatory plum pudding and brandy butter for pudding. About an hour later my Mum will have started on the Thorntons chocolates even though she admits she's not at all hungry, then five minutes later complain that she feelsd sick! I love the predictability of family at Christmas! Hope you all have / had a lovely day and enjoy all that delicious food x

@naomi Hahaha awwww!
December 25th, 2010
I was meant to go see family, but due to road conditions I cannot. As such I have no food in, and I doubt starbucks will be open today, so I shall be having a tin of heinz soup, probably chicken. With no bread to dip in it. And only water to drink alongside it.

Yeah winter!!!
December 25th, 2010
@nikkers I want to fly there and eat with you! LOL
December 25th, 2010
Chestnut, broccoli and mushroom pie with all the trimmings, roast potatoes, mashed swede, parsnips, sprouts, gravy and homemade cranberry sauce - followed by homemade trifle. I haven't started cooking it yet so better get a move on!
December 25th, 2010
@eyebrows That makes me sad for you. :(
December 25th, 2010
@jjsooner It's ok, I made the amazing discovery that adding course ground pepper to chicken and vegetable soups made them about 500 times more awesome! Every cloud... :P
December 25th, 2010
Ham, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, green bean casserole... who knows what else. And apple pie for dessert!
December 25th, 2010
Each year since we don't want to repeat Thanksgiving dinner, my dad cooks a Christmas dinner from some other part of the world. We've had Thai, England, China, Italy, etc. This year my grandmother really wanted turkey again, so looks like an American Christmas this year! Maybe next year I can talk him into Hawaiian again...yum
December 25th, 2010
@miranda , most welcome to come to dinner, we look forward to sharing with you..:)
December 25th, 2010
It's Summer here in Australia so many of us try to avoid the hot meal thing. We had fresh king prawns, mango and cucumber salsa, fresh salad ingredients all from our garden, home-made crusty bread rolls and followed with a huge selection of stone fruit, mostly home-grown, soaked in spice-infused syrup with lashings of King Island double cream. All accompanied by cold white wine, of course. Later nibbled on a selection of cheeses with crackers and red wine.

I'm hungry again reading this!
December 26th, 2010
My son is the family chef. We had lamb (one that they raised), delicious creamy pumpkin and root veggies, and barley.

For yesterday my other son and I made tamales for the first time ever. I grew up on the Mexican border and tamales on Christmas eve are a tradition in Mexico (also Texas and New Mexico). It was an interesting experience and they turned out pretty good.
