It's just idle curiosity but... My BFF, Mr @padlock, told me all about a remote control shutter release that doesn't require batteries (my normal one is always running out of battery power at the most awkward and inappropriate of moments). So I ordered a RC-201/N3 Shutter Cable Releasefrom Amazon to go with my Canon DSLR. It turned up today and I plugged it in and "Voila!" it worked first time!
So... my question is "How does a battery-less remote, trigger an all electronic DSLR?" I can only assume that there must be a piezzo crystal that generates a minute, but sufficient, amount of current to allow the camera to acquire focus and then trigger the shutter. Any ideas anyone? Magic? A Terry Pratchett style Goblin inside? If it works, don't ask awkward questions?
As for the title above, this was one of the instructions for using the remote release! Such a perspicacious people the Chinese.
It looks like the cable release I use for my Nikon but with a different connector on the end, assuming the cord end plugs into the camera. I've been using mine for about 2 years and have used it a lot in not great conditions. It's very reliable. I think the cord gets energy to the plug somehow through the camera but I don't know how. I have the electronic kind which means I can be further away from my camera, but usually, I grab the cord one as it's easier to set up -- and it's all in one piece.

Personally I like to think of black magic and goblins doing the business as well!
