The Cardboard Robot Craze

January 1st, 2011
The invasion is happening. These adorable boxmen have taken over various art and photography sites such as deviantArt and Facebook (photography site? Mrf...).
And now Danboards (Danbo for short) have been introduced into the 365project.

...No, this isn't self advertisement (although that'd be useful). I'm explaining what the heck these things are.

The Danboard is basically a little posable action figure built by the company Kaiyodo. It's gone viral, mostly to the help of adorable inspirational pictures on various sites.
Danbo's tiny stature (the full size is about 5 inches, the mini one is 80mm) is one factor, and the other is that the Danboard just looks so innocent you want to hug it.

The trick to getting the Danboard to work in a photo is to get it in a realistic pose. Most/all (I haven't seen one that varied) portray Danbo as a curious robot capable of thinking on it's own-- basically the low-tech robot version of a 3-year old.

So, there you have it. The background to my username (and 365 project) along with the new knowledge of these little guys. Hope you enjoyed.

I started a little blog about him (her) a while ago, and then promptly abandoned it. I've used mine for a few photos, as have quite a few people on here, and it's good to see someone else doing the same! Looking forward to seeing the adventures of Kung Pao Beef Dan-chan Noodles the Eighth ^_^
