This is going to sound a little silly but have been taking pictures for a long time now and am just starting to have the courage to step on out and go to the next level.
I would like to know how to get my photos out into the public eye without posting on flickr and other such sites?, can anyone help me?.
I was thinking of taking a few around to the local restaurants and cafes and asking if they would be interested in hanging them up, but i'm worried that this is illegal and what else do i have to know about before i do go? such as do i have to have a copyright on my photos?, just incase others claim it as thier own.
any advice and ideas you have will be very useful,
might I suggest a street fair? and yes you own the copy right to your images but if you photo something that is copy righted like coke can or a photo of someone else things can get tricky. I would suggest stamping the image on the back or signing the photo to show owner ship.
There are a few restaurants around me that rent photos and every month a service comes in a swaps the photos on the wall, its a great way to keep things fresh. If you had several larger prints you could swap you may be able to offer this service yourself or look for a company that does this service and see if they would like to use some of your images.

In this area, many of the small coffee shops (and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf) regularly have a rotating "exhibit" of local art.
You might check out some in your area.
Another idea is to check with your local art counsel to see about any upcoming art fairs, etc. in your area.
Here we have one very popular event called Artwalk.
It is always on the first Thursday of the month and takes over downtown.
