Holga

January 21st, 2011
Hi Everyone! Who has a Holga? Which one do you have? Do you like it? love it? Is it super fun? a waste of $$$$? I want a fun new toy and would like one to just play with and take some fun shots. I want to know if it is worth it. Thanks!!! And thank you for commenting and being so creative and supportive!

Many thanks,
Alina

it's not worth it. If you truly want a toy, buy some cheap soviet made camera from ebay. It's cheaper, better build and even more holga than the commercial plastic holga's.

I LOVE my Holga! I even run expensive Velvia slide film through mine with good results. Mine is pretty sharp in the center, and doesn't have light leaks, which is nice. Hell, I've even done concert photography, and nobody could tell it wasn't taken with a $1000 DSLR, and instead was taken with a $40 plastic camera. I have the flash model, which does come in handy.

People win White House Press Agency photo contests with Holgas... so to completely dismiss them is kind of stupid. Unless you just want absolutely crappy photographs (blurry, horrible light leaks), then yeah, I guess it's better to go for something worse, LOL

I have one, but it's been converted to a pinholga. And I converted the holga lens to Nikon F-mount, so I can take digital holga shots.

I haven't used in in a while.

@alinataylor i saw a camera online which marries the Lomo/Holga effect with digital...it's called the Digital Harinezumi... the latest model I think takes 3MP pictures, and takes video too...when i saw the videos taken with the unusual looking camera, they looked like 8mm videos of the 70s...thought it was damn awesome.

here's a blogger who uses one: http://www.harinezumiphotoblog.com/

@hmgphotos @sudweeks @nellycious thank you all for the input! I will certainly do a bit more research but I am sure I will end up with one soon. I am just not looking to spend a fortune and I don't expect the output to be that of my DSLR.
