Aussies are really copping it lately! Hope your daughter is safe. Great link Graham.
February 2nd, 2011
This is the last thing anyone in Queensland, or any other part of Australia, needs to see. I'm hoping this storm has minimal impact, and wishing everyone a safe passage through the storm.
February 2nd, 2011
Thinking good thoughts to all in the path. Stay safe!
February 2nd, 2011
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you out there!

I have a very good friend who is giving me blow by blows as long as she still has power. Thoughts and prayers to all who are affected!
February 2nd, 2011
Stay safe alright, it looks like its going to be deadly ;-(
At least they have had a few days of warning to be prepared, I hope its enough.
February 2nd, 2011
It's all just a waiting game for now.. till tonight. then it goes through. fingers crossed its not too bad. thanks for the well wishes. At times like these, I hate being a single parent..
February 2nd, 2011
@vaderkip what part of Townsville is ur daughter?? I can tell you if she'd be ok or not.. lived here most my life.
February 2nd, 2011
Thank you Vaderkip for your thoughts. Ask me again tomorrow how I am going eh?
February 2nd, 2011
Very scary, stay safe everyone!
February 2nd, 2011
@vaderkip @robynelizabeth I have been thinking of everyone there all day! I am sending positive thoughts to all of them. I cant imagine with your daughter being there how nerve wrecking it must be. I am from MS Gulf Coast and we do not take these things lightly. Everyone of them will be in my thoughts tonight.
February 2nd, 2011

getting pretty squirly, hope all the FN QLD'ers have battened down the hatches and are safe. x
February 2nd, 2011
@bobfoto @robynelizabeth Keep your heads down guys. Stay safe :-/
February 2nd, 2011
@robynelizabeth She's in Kelso.
February 2nd, 2011
@vaderkip near the river, but out pretty far.. hopefully pretty safe place. they said on the news only 5 hrs to go.. gee such a waiting game.. and they making it look scarey on the news..
February 2nd, 2011
Getting a bit gusty in Townsville now, but I reckon we'll be alright. The storm surge will be the worst part of it down here. Koshi's mum is down from Innisfail, which is almost exactly where it is due to cross over (and which got wiped out by a cyclone three years ago). Safer here, we reckoned.

Here's an interesting picture for anyone in the USA:

Hoping everyone stays safe, i can't believe we've had fires, floods and now one of the largest ever cyclones about to hit australia all under 2 mths.
Come on mother nature give us all a break.
February 2nd, 2011
@robynelizabeth Thanks Robyn. We are going to be with you all in spirit tonight. No doubt we'll hear from you tomorrow.
February 2nd, 2011
@jinximages I keep watching the news which is like starting to freak me out more than what I should be..
February 2nd, 2011
@robynelizabeth We'll be alright here mate. The flooding is the thing that's going to cause problems, and if you're in Riverside or the Upper Ross area you won't get much of that. I'm near Holy Spirit school, and I know we'll be high and dry here. Common sense will get us all through. :)
February 2nd, 2011
@bobfoto I will. Chin up and we are all with you mate.
February 2nd, 2011
@jinximages @vaderkip yeah I know.. at least I am not where it is at it's worst. Just hate being in a house just me and kids.. even though they are older now which is good, they are still only kids. but all good. thanks
February 2nd, 2011
I'll pray for you and hope you're all in a safe place to sit it out. I think the waiting is the worst. I hope to hear from you on the other side of this. We're all in Gods hands.
February 2nd, 2011
Doing pretty sweet so far! That's a dark sky full of rain and wind though... power is out and the frogs are singing. Pity the wind is louder.
February 2nd, 2011
My flatmate is watching it on live cam - stay save everyone!
February 2nd, 2011
@bobfoto Where are you, mate? Cranbrook still has power.
February 2nd, 2011
I am glad you started this thread as I was thinking of letting all 365 members who have family or friends, ( or indeed live there themselves ) in Queensland, know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and, if possible to let us know what the situation is when you get a chance. .
February 2nd, 2011
@jinximages - Kelso mate, and power went out a 5pm. I have checked with Ergon and they say that they'll check on the matter once Yasi has visited Mt Isa.
February 2nd, 2011
@robynelizabeth @bobfoto @jinximages Kelso lost power several hours ago.
February 2nd, 2011
@vaderkip You must be worried sick..my thoughts are with your daughter and family right now.
February 2nd, 2011
@cindy thanks Cindy. it is worrying but they all seem to be well prepared and have each other for support.
February 2nd, 2011
@vaderkip - don't I know it... still it gives the Genny and the Gas Cooker a run.
February 2nd, 2011
@bobfoto love your positive outlook.
February 2nd, 2011
@vaderkip - the wind has stepped up a notch Mr Vaderkip, I hope your daughter has secure lodgings for the night.... the sound of splintering Eucalypt is prominent in the suburbs tonight!
February 2nd, 2011
@bobfoto thanks mate , she is living with her Aunt, Uncle and cousins so she is in good company.

I believe winds are getting up to 100kph and waves upto 9.6m in Townsville.
February 2nd, 2011
we have had sustained winds of 70kph with gusts to 104kph. I have not checked on the waves, I'm hopefully far enough away from the beach. But my office... ai ai ai!
February 2nd, 2011
wind is continuing to increase as the air pressure continues to drop.

The world is going to be a mess when the sun gets up later...
February 2nd, 2011
@jinximages Glad to hear that Jinx - really glad. Can you tell me how Annersley is faring. I have friends there and I haven't had a response to my email.
February 2nd, 2011
@miranda - 35,000 homes are out of power in Townsville. The winds are now finally getting the right side of TC Yasi, ENEerlys but still gusting at over 100kph.

Its been a windy ol' night!
February 2nd, 2011
@bobfoto glad too see you've come through it. Is everything ok?
February 2nd, 2011
@vaderkip - Powerlines are down and across the road, but some people feel the need to get out and drive!!! Hope they are emergency service workers or something???

A lot of tree damage to my garden, but we will sort that out, I think I now have the space for a lime tree :)
February 2nd, 2011
oh and thanks for all the warm words of support from the 365 community, you guys helped add a smile to the face of this scared little guy... I just wanna take photos of bugs and frogs... not get blown off the planet!

And please, I hope @jinximages @robynelizabeth reply soon. It would be good to hear they are safe.
February 5th, 2011
@bobfoto hi..safe and sound, just no power at my place yet. at my mums home who got power on today.. yeah thought it silly that there were people in cars soon after.
February 5th, 2011
@robynelizabeth - good news to hear you're okay... still no power here. there is a power pole down across the road and while that is horizontal I guess no power for me.
February 5th, 2011
@bobfoto so how??? am confused
February 5th, 2011
@robynelizabeth - genset and battery power... although the genset has now gone quiet... will be joining the queues at the servo tomorrow!!!
February 5th, 2011
@bobfoto Just saw the news about Yasi going through.. as just got the power back late this arvo.. and we are so lucky in Townsville, terrible up north. so glad that it is finally over though., wasn't a very pleasant experience.
February 5th, 2011
@bobfoto @robynelizabeth Welcome back. Glad you guys all came through relatively unscathed.
February 5th, 2011
@robynelizabeth @vaderkip - we got off lightly Robyn. I cut up a tree across the road for the lady that lives there so that she could have access to her driveway today and she says Yasi was worse than Althea!!!
February 5th, 2011
@vaderkip your girl and family all ok? I assume yes ...
February 5th, 2011
@misschuff yes thanks. Minimal damage mainly to the trees and still without power but all good. Apparently, she slept through most of it !!! Unlike her Dad :-)
February 5th, 2011
@vaderkip Good to hear. My mother is at Charters Towers ... they went to collect friends from T'ville, their car broke down and remained in the evacuated house on the creek ... still no word re the damage ... but no news is good news. They got back to CT and had wind, rain and branches but all safe.
