CS5 RAW editor vs Lightroom

February 4th, 2011
Had a wee play with CS5 Raw editor tonight and to me it's much of a sameness except mine hasn't got presets. I quite liked it though. But, there are little weird things in it which I can't get my head round. The cloning tool was weird. Or I'm probably doing it wrong. There was some other tool that looked like a brush and when I clicked it on the picture it brightened up that part of the image as if the sun was shining on that spot causing my eyes to screw up iykwim. I'm not quite sure what it's for. Unfortunately I've put it off so can't remember the names of the tools. There's no history on it so if I make a mistake it's harder to pull back although ctrl z works I suppose.

Anyone else played with CS5 RAW editor and what are your thoughts on it?

I'm off to bed now so will see your replies in the morn. Night all.

I don't have Lightroom so can't tell. Getting my head around RAW and not used the top button area that much although going through Lynda.com's vid tuorial's is bloody fantastic. I did use the crop tool and straightening tool and they are almost my new best friend ..

For instance, I learnt I CAN OPEN A JPEG IN RAW AND EDIT! I mean how awesome is that for me who can't get my head around the complexities of PS? So excited as now I can work within my knowledge and power of RAW on the Venus pix ( http://365project.org/misschuff/365/2011-01-11) that was ONLY SHOT IN JPEG - sad story that one!

@sdpace When you look for it you can't see it, well I can't anyway but maybe I'm not looking hard enough, lol. When you open CS5, click open in file manager to open your RAW photo and the editor appears. It's a bit weird.

@misschuff @silverhorn Do you have any presets in yours? I try not to use them in LR but I have on occasion for some great effects. My presets are empty so wondered where I can get some to play with.
