Latest on my son

February 4th, 2011
There are many new people here on this site that follow me and many are still here from when I abandoned this project back in the beginning of October. If you care to catch up on what has transpired you can check out these discussion threads. I can't locate the first one I put up.

I don't really expect anyone to read all these entries but I put them there just in case. As to his present condition. After having the LVAD in for about four months they were scheduled to remove the pump because all indications were that his heart had recovered substantially. But prior to opening his chest up they did an echocardiogram and a TEE (transesophogial echocardiogram) from the inside and saw that the heart while shutting down the pump. It turns out that his heart wasn't doing as well as they thought, so they made a decision to leave it in. Removing it would be risky because if his heart began to fail again he would again need the LVAD and putting it in again would have all kinds of risks associated with it. Needless to say when he came out of anesthesia he was disappointed and obviously depressed as were all of us. As of now the doctors have not made a decision as to the next course of action. We are just glad he is alive, and because there was no surgery he will be home in a couple days, albeit with the LVAD still in his chest.

I dont know how I missed all of these updates on your son. I've been so mia from the site here and there with school and other random things keeping me busy. I'm so sorry about his condition. I too am so so glad he is still alive and can only pray and hope that his health improves from now on.... Gosh I wish I could just fix things with the snap of a finger :( just hang in there Ray... and I'd be interested to see how your son is doing a few weeks from now even... keep us updated and stay positive. ♥

@lauren211 Thank you for you kind words. I know what you mean about a snap of a finger to make it better. I just wish I could turn back the clock and have my son and best friend back the way he was so he wouldn't have to deal with this. I will keep everyone updated.

@rayswrld Thank you Ray. I am new to the 365 project and only started near the end of December. I was able to read your previous updates. This has certainly been a challenge for you and your family. While everything may not be turning out just the way you hoped, it certainly sounds like your son has come a long way from the initial diagnosis. In my short time here I have seen how supportive the community is, and I think it is easy for you to see how you have been in the thoughts of so many people. I hope you will find an end to these trials, and that you will rejoin the project. I am sure you will see the world through different eyes now.

Praying for your family, I cannot even imagine how difficult all of this must be for all of you. Try to keep the faith :)

Prayers for your son and your family. I am glad he has come so far since the first time you told us about his condition. Hopefully, the docs will come up with a better plan soon.
February 5th, 2011
As you said, he is still with you, and that is so much better than the alternative . We can live with a life line.. may be a pain in the arse at times, but a life line it is...:)
Heres hoping the next time they assess him , he is stronger and able to remove the hard wires...
peace to you and your family and him of course!!

@lauren211 Lauren, I did mean my son. Of course my wife is my best friend but my son and I are very close and now that he is an adult it is a close friendship as well as a father son relationship.
February 6th, 2011
I'm sorry to hear his heart wasn't doing well enough to have the pump removed, but as you said, the most important thing is that he's still with you. I'm glad you were able to go out and be with him. I'm sure it means the world to him to have you there.
February 6th, 2011
I think of you endlessly. So thankful for this update, Ray. You are an incredible caregiver for you son.
February 8th, 2011
Thank you for the update Ray. I am so sorry to hear that things aren't going as well as you all hoped. Hang in there.
I am sending you warm thoughts from a very cold place... HUGS!

I'm glad I found my way to this discussion thread. I had missed the updates as I dropped in periodically on your pictures. I am so sorry that you and your family and of course your son are having to endure this. At least his doctors appear to be on top of things and are responsive to changes in his condition. We are united in wishing you well and praying that your son has a good outcome.
