I have been using my pentax for a few years now ( i am pentax biased, sorry ) And have had immense passion for long exp for a long time. Unfortunately though Canberra isnt an overly busy city at night and we dont have the most brightly lit buildings either.. I have done a few scenic routes, but am after any cool ideas or hints..... My personal faves of my own long exposure are in my 365 album, the one of our war memorial from the bottom of the stairs and out the front of moosheads, with the police cars still and the moving human traffic.
Yes, both at night and during the day time. At night, simply because fast shutter speed does not work and also because I want to capture movements. During the day, long shutter speed allows for motion blur, which is also what I enjoy doing... here are a few since I started the project...
If you can, get yourself out into the countryside, somewhere that it's nice and dark at night, and shoot long exposures (more than 10 mins) using just the illumination of the moon (any time between full and half moon works fine).
The amount of illumination in the photos is a really interesting effect, and one I fail to tire of!
I would LOVE to do more long exposures! I try to always use availible light, so most of my indoor shots are long-ish on a tripod. I finally got a chance to do a long exp with movement last night! So fun!
my 365 is about portraits but here are some of my take on this long exposure thingy..
Shot by my nearly broken 18-55mm (left out at the heavily pouring rain for a night)...
these are moving pictures... (pls wait for few seconds to load)

(I would like to know how you feel about these or my other photos.. Thanks!)
Love long exposures! I'm still a beginner at it, but I'm hoping to try some more. I love the light painting! These are a couple of my more successful attempts:
@kick_the_cow try coloured fabric ... and check out the tag of light painting's. I've done some but others here have already seen them so either go to my album and peruse Dec, Nov and other months or light painting (tag).
Those are great! I especially like the one in the middle, underneath the bridge... :)
I need a tripod and better places to photograph to become an "addict" :(

I find a tripod or beanbag useful for anything longer than a quarter of a second.

a few of my faves .
I have so much fun with this kind of photography , nice and relaxing .
But here's my favourite:
It's three 4 sec exposures stacked.
This one looks like a bright sunny day but it was quite dark under the train. I used a 4 second exposure for it to pick out all the detail and colour.
This one taken through a wet car window.
