Just a random vent. I was experimenting with water shots for the first time and really getting into it, and having fun to. Just as I had a great idea to make it better... my camera died. So now my water play is postponed. I know I should really buy a back up battery but I keep forgetting to. Has anyone else been into a really good photo shoot and have your camera die? Its so annoying!
I've had it die out in cold weather. Learned the hard way how batteries "seem" to run out of juice faster when they're cold. Missed a whole Christmas parade of pics. Oh well..still enjoyed the parade. :) I stil lhave to get that backup battery myself.
@AshleyMiller that sounds super creepy! My camera eats batteries, like literally I will have my camera on for a few minutes and I will need a whole new pair... I hate it!
@jessleeca I used to live in terror, until I was at tech and somebody ordered a spare battery for a DV cam, a canon DV cam... They ordered the wrong one... I asked, free spare, same way I got a bunch of stuff like a really weird chair and a decent chunk of my computers guts..
@feeandstevie Are you using rechargables? Get the largest power output you can and have a fully charged spare set on standby too! Had a set die on me last night during the Norfolk 365ers meet so I just threw in the spare set & carried on.
ok, worst camera died story? canon 5d, just finished a 1 week old newborn shoot, take camera out of bag to get cf card from it, strap snags on corner of cupboard and camera slips out of my hand . . . hits the floor so hard it sends a shock through the camera and fries the internal mother board, fries the cf card (with my newborn photos on it) . . .
thank goodness for insurance! but i still cried about it for weeks
oh forgot to mention, i did get the photos from the card, although no computer would read it, put it into our backup camera - 30D - and it could read the photos, sometimes. so had to plug it into the pc via usb cable and download them that way, soooo lucky
dont feel too sympathetic, i now have a 5dmk2 to replace it, thanks insurance!
i'm still totally bummed about my 5d tho, i loved it, love the mk2 as well, but still
@lightfantastic Thats quite a story. I'm glad you got your photos off of the card. That would have been horrible! Glad you got a nice new camera out of the deal. I need a new camera, but an extra battery right now is more affordible to me!
@spaceman Any day now, I sent the camera to a friend of my dads who fixes cameras, just to make sure they hadn't just written it off without good reason, but there was good reason, not worth me fixing it, especially since the shutter will need to be replaced soon. Waiting for it to be sent back to me
@jessleeca It sucks that the 5d and the 5dmk2 don't share batteries, have to stock up on new ones (I like to have spares, and my camera has a battery grip for extra long battery power) This is my business, so it pays for anything it needs
