Most Meaningful Pic

February 19th, 2011
I find that sometimes I have real strong personal connections to pictures that I take, and some of these pictures are not neccesarily my "good" ones. So it got me thinking if this happens to others. What is the most meaningful photo you have taken as part of 365? Make sure you include what makes the pic so meaningful here or under the comments for the pic.

This one got me to think about the roles my daughter and I play for each other, and that she is starting to move away in the natural sense of growing up. (There is more under the comment section under the pic.)

Nod
Anything related to Buddhism...this one is taken in a small monastery in Pattaya (beach town in Thailand) where I used to run there and back when I went to Pattaya more often...

This is definitely mine. A truly, truly dreadful picture in terms of everything apart from the meaning. It's my daughter being driven back to uni by my sister-in-law and was the only snap I got as they drove away. She went too quickly so I wasn't able to take any more but it means the world to me :o)

I have four. This one, because my father never came back from the Vietnam War. He is an "Unknown Soldier" somewhere.

And these three, because they are "me" photos. As a mom, I don't spend much time doing "me" things anymore (no complaints, it just is). These three things are/were a huge part of my life.

this is mine, last year 3 friends and i walked a half marathon in highly decorated bras through the streets of london at night in aid of breast cancer awareness and treatment, we didn't manage to reach our fundraising target but we know we helped, considering i had been going to physio for bad pain in my hips just weeks before makes it a huge achievement for me to be able to cover just over 13 miles on foot and i could walk the next day so i display my medal proudly

@sallycheese That's awesome (:

This one of my parents, as naturally they mean the world to me. This was taken just a couple of days after dad was released from the hospital, after suffering his third heart attack :-( but, I love that they are laughing!

These guys, because although we are friends, we act like family. They are great people...couldn't ask for anything more from them :-)

And this one, because I get to share 3 amazing days, walking 60 miles with my best friend, to fight breast cancer :-) This is going to be our 5th year! Headed to Chicago in August to add another 60 miles to the souls of our shoes!

this one without a doubt.

the reason its so meaningful to me is that my son in this photo has had a rocky transition from one school to another when we moved county and has been the subject of bullies , i choose to do this shot as i think it protrays a lot of the feelings people have of youths today !
February 19th, 2011
@clarissajohal the unknown soldier is so moving to me. Sent shivers down my spine the first time I saw that post.......

@sallycheese Awesome indeed! Thank you for doing that to help end Breast Cancer!!
February 19th, 2011
This is the last picture I took of Mutley - he had to be put to sleep the next day, so obviously this is the picture with the most meaning for me this year :(

February 19th, 2011
All the pictures of my kids because they are my life, but I can't pick just one of them. :)

My Grandpa...he's played such a huge role in my life and my brother's.

My wedding ring. My husband and I have been together for 10 years, married for 9 1/2.
February 19th, 2011
@viranod @psychographer @clarissajohal @sallycheese @deesdiscoveries Wow so many pics. It is powerful to see the personal side of photography wether it is about fathers, friends, self, religion, illness or daughters. These pics are truley priceless.

My daughter found my husband's old boat hat. She's attached to it today. She's been loving playing with the new camera as much as I have and wanted me to take some pics of her room. I ended up snapping this one. I had the camera in auto at the time. The focus ended up on the hat, but I like it. Lately him being gone has been the total focus of her world and weighing her down somewhat. Between that and the look on her face it just struck me.

I have a lot of unintentional photos that really mean something to me. This one is my favorite of them - my son. It looks posed, but you can see the before/after here I'm just glad I can still find that gorgeous boy in all his silly teenage aloofness. He's my favorite guy in the world. :)

I also really love this photo, and moreso now that I drove by and found it has been removed/covered up:
February 19th, 2011
@deesdiscoveries Aw, thanks. Seeing 100's of these gravestones side-by-side was really overwhelming
February 19th, 2011
@minxymissk I'm sorry to read that--that's hard :(
February 19th, 2011
@clarissajohal Thank you, it was a really hard few days when he went downhill, he is and will always be missed.
February 19th, 2011
This one, because it is a picture of me with my kids on our first Christmas all together in 15 years. It was the BEST Christmas ever!

February 19th, 2011
Hard to tell, I have a few... This is one of them:
February 19th, 2011
@shadowdancer This reminds me of a Vermeer painting. He did two or three with letters as a motif, and the natural interior light by the window is just perfect.
February 19th, 2011
@csievert Isn't great how an image can be so evocative and help us recall such good times?
February 19th, 2011
@sdpace Really like how you are able to capture such fleeting moments, your son and the graffiti for example.
February 19th, 2011
@lolanae My favorite pic which is not on 365, is one I took of my daughter in my baseball hat. She had to have been about the same age as your little girl.
February 19th, 2011
@smapp Thanks! I've mentioned somewhere in another thread what my "rules" of photography are - the first one is to never wait for a photo. Just shoot and shoot and shoot - you might miss the opportunity if you wait. :) Thanks for the follow!
February 19th, 2011
@angieberg Family is so important.
February 19th, 2011
@minxymissk Sorry. We lost our last of three cats a month ago. Luckily we still have our two happy go lucky dogs.
February 19th, 2011
February 19th, 2011
@flamez Complicated time. Best of luck, hope he can find something in his life to bring him balance and peace.
February 19th, 2011
@smapp : Thanks! Being compared with a Vermeer painting sure is a great honor. :-)
February 19th, 2011
Everything changed for me the moment i shot these guys down in venice...

February 19th, 2011
@minxymissk Sorry for the loss of your sweet doggie. Reading that and then looking at your photo made me feel a bit weepy:(
February 19th, 2011
I think it would have to be this one, this was one of those photos taken for emotion rather than image and really captured how I was feeling on that day.

February 19th, 2011
Tough choice forr me between this one and the one of my husband's new tattoo of my daughter's name. But this one kind of conveys my feelings toward my little girl, and it's my favorite time of day with her, right before her nap time and she's willing to just cuddle and sit quietly with me. Rare.
February 19th, 2011
when i'm feeling low or just feel the need for a strong presence in my life i remember and listen to this song which i have tried to capture in this shot.
February 19th, 2011
@pwallis He was a lovely dog, sweet natured and utterly dopey, we only had him for 18 months after his Dad moved to Singapore, but losing him has left a gap in our lives. Thank you.
February 19th, 2011
@smapp We still have Bayleigh (the Basset) and Flump (our cat) but their presence almost makes it more obvious that Mutters has gone.
February 19th, 2011
This was at a local cemetery just after we had a big snowfall....it was kind of sad seeing all the headstones buried too.
February 19th, 2011
@pwallis I really like how you are caught up in the moment with your eyes closed, yet your daughter is looking back at us.
February 19th, 2011
@sheetalthakker Great sentiment, idea and execution. I love the lines you quoted, and how you helped me remember how important music can be.
February 19th, 2011
The first two because this was my first major adventure after back surgery.

The next one ,because it was my son's first day of Kinder and seeing that I NEVER thought I would have kids.. its a milestone for both of us that he is school age,

Again this one, because my husband though he would not have kids. and he says its the best thing that ever happened to him

And the last one, because as a mother its my job to teach Avery about life. rules. manners etc. but its also my job to teach him to enjoy life. and be happy and have fun. and I think we parents forget that sometimes...
February 19th, 2011
Meaningful is a big word ... hard to choose!
February 19th, 2011
@smapp Thanks:) Yeah, she kept hearing the shutter going and just couldn't stay focused on the book in front of her, lol
February 19th, 2011
@interludephotosThis idea of being lost or forgotten in death is scary, but you have captured a lovely blancket of snow protecting the fallen. And your photograph honors them.
February 19th, 2011
February 19th, 2011
@robinwarner I have been looking through your pics and have thoroughly enjoyed your cast of characters. Wonderful larger than life portraits. Is this what changed for you when you toook the pic above?
February 19th, 2011
@nikkers Very funny. Seems like you have a great perspective on life and are an awesome parent.
February 19th, 2011
@smapp . Thank you ,, I try :)
February 19th, 2011
@pepperlru Yes hard to choose just one. Aren't all our pictures meaningful? For me this post is also about seeing personal things in pics that others may have missed or that they may simply not know.
February 19th, 2011
@kmrtn6 So sorry. I know some do not project feelings onto their pets, but for me they are family.
February 19th, 2011
@smapp - for us too - how can you not get attached to that level amazes me with some people. bless her she's still battling on
February 19th, 2011
Took this pic of my mom for the song-inspired theme. The song I was thinking about is Save You, from Simple Plan (http://www.simpleplan.com/videos.php). It was written by the lead singer, after his brother had cancer. My mum is a lung cancer survivor. I think that the song expresses how helpless you can feel when a relative is sick or dying

This little angel was my grandmother's. Last holidays were the second ones without her, and I missed her a lot so I took this pic.

February 19th, 2011
@maola Great pics. My mother in law is going through lung csncer right now. She found out in November.
February 19th, 2011

I got a bit banged up in november, stuck in a chair since then, finally recently been able to go to crutches and been very rough. a fire department i was on closed down, and i could not do the last shifts with them, haven't been able to do time on the other department i am on, and not been able to be alone since then, because i have had to rely on other people and their schedules if i want to try to go anywhere.
February 19th, 2011
@cchambers So sorry about your predicament.
February 19th, 2011
@smapp Sorry to hear that, I hope she has the same luck as my mom and can be cured.
February 19th, 2011
This is my boyfriend. He shows me love that I never really knew existed and for that reason this is my most meaningful picture.

February 20th, 2011
My shot from yesterday is my choice even though it's nothing special to most people. Being a mom has given my life meaning:
February 21st, 2011
@smapp Fun idea...this is mine of my "little" boy!

February 21st, 2011
@cholbert @terek55 Thanks. It was nice to see not just the pics that we think are good, but to also see the pics that we care about.
