@eyebrows Thank you sooooo much for making sure that those that do not advertise their one or 47 moments of glory are thankted for not filling up discussions.
I think we need to create a group on here called "Photographers With a Sense of Humor"
I just gave up ever making the popular page beacuse I do not have children, animals or have photoshop. Now I just make myself laugh and have fun.
@brumbe
"I just gave up ever making the popular page beacuse I do not have children, animals or have photoshop. Now I just make myself laugh and have fun."
Ha! I love this!! I like to sneak a silly photo in that cracks me up every once in awhile. Buddy Christ that I posted above never made it to PP, but I have 3 of him in my albums that make me laugh every time I look at them. :D
I wonder how they choose the popular pics.........why is mine on the popular page...
......who are the magic monkeys......why does mine stay for 10 secs then disappears...why?
@cindy Have you tried refreshing more times? There seems to be a lot more pics on the pop page these days, and it might just take more re-loading to see it again.
@sdpace and now you know why I chose to follow you. I actually stopped following those that were so artistic it was always the same type of photo. I have a photo of a broken Easter Egg in February and a picture of me with Lionel Richie this week.
@brumbe ---- My broccoli and giant zucchini made the popular page. hahahaha!!!! I could not believe that it did but it did. Now that we are on the subject, let me now share that with everyone. ;-) Yay me!!!
@eyebrows You always cut to the chase, remind me to give my teddy bear a hug in your honour.
Can I add to that a Thank You to everyone who DOESN'T take the time to thank everyone for their comments? A lovely idea but....takes awhile to go through those Notifications.
I get all excited that somebody said something personal only to be disappointed by:
@(insert names here) @ @ @ @ Thank you all!
Blah, is it just me? I think we're all thankful for comments, yes? Does it go without saying?
I have been guilty of this a couple of times but let me explain why ....
when i first joined here it never even occured to me to post a thankyou in general when a photo made PP , but ... then about a month in i started noticing a few people doing it , then a few more and so being a person that spends time drumming politeness and common decency into her kids heads i thought hmmmm .... maybe saying thankyou is polite ..... so thats how i became guilty as charged !! .... point taken tho its probably very annoying to others *hangs head in shame and wanders off to slap the sense back into herself*
@gill Yes! I am missing things like that too! Do we need to start a thread on it? haha
I appreciate personal responses but the generic "thank you's" drive me nuts. I feel bad saying that, but they do.
@gill@clarissajohal .... i agree i miss things too because of the thankyous but am also guilty of saying thankyou , because again i like to be polite and acknowledge the fact that people have taken the time to look at my photos :S
@clarissajohal@gill exact same reason I hate getting "Thank you!" email replies from work colleagues when I do stuff that's in my line of duty anyway. Every little tiny thing. Thank you!. Pause! I get paid to do it!
@edpartridge is that one of them Seven Dwarves? I don't remember the names but... is it bashful? dopey? :p
@naomiTroll Face actually, but I'll let it slide ;) and yeah I did spot your tweets, been on my mind to make this post for a while now too. Bizarre that we never had any last year, only started up with this year's new intake...
@crappysailor@gill Yeah as best I can make out, with my very limited memory skills, it's only been this year, thereabouts. To get "serious", you could hypothesise that as more people are drawn here (and to the internet in general), those people are less internetish and don't really "get it" and so you get over-politeness all over the place.
@gill ~ ahhhh now see i started 1st jan so i guess what i saw as "the norm" actually wasnt "the norm" ! i totally understand where people are coming from , to be honest some days i really cant be bothered to go through and say thankyou but others days i catch up and do it , but i agree that it makes u miss things you want to read as u assume its just a thankyou and ignore the notification !
as for being brave ... nah not really im quite confident in life (just not photography lol) and certainly aint scared to say my thoughts (or in this case type hehe )
@flamez - no worries. It has become the norm. But some of us aren't used to it. I thought I was the only one who was confused by 2 or 3 discussions on the PP at a time. Plus the normal, "how do i get there" and "how was it decided."
@eyebrows - That person deserves a slap. Who does that? Isn't it common knowledge at this point? It really bugs me on commercials. Like the advertising agent writing the copy doesn't even get it.
@clarissajohal@dill
I solved my problem of having to be overly polite. I go through my followers once a week, and instead of saying thank you,I try to find one photo to comment on with positive feed back and not just "love it" "beautiful" "great capture". This way I thank the people who have to put up with my photos on a daily basis.
I am so glad someone started a thread on this! I agree 100%! When I started the project last year you'd almost never see a thread about making the PP w/ photo...interesting development.
Thank you for this Steve! It does get extremely annoying to see a new post 25 times a day thanking everyone for your photo making the PP. It's nice and all when it happens and you should be appreciative that people like your work but you don't have to announce it to everyone.
Oh sir, I must bow to you. I get excited about making the PP and all but calm down people! There doesn't need to be a new discussion EVERY time!!! If you have to thank people do it on your photo!!
PS. I actually skipped this thread assuming it would be one of 'those' ones until I saw that you started it lol.
@amz87 (: Haha--well, do what makes you comfortable. I think what people seem to be saying (on the other Thank You Notification thread) is that it's not expected. My feeling was that the Notifications was originally put in by Ross so people could use it as a feature for more personal messages/questions. I could be wrong, though, and be coming across as a complete troll with no manners!
yeah great thread, nice one the steve/eyebrows/TATB.
@clarissajohal totally get you on the "thanks", I'd rather try and view/comment than the blanket thank although recently i've not had much time and almost considered a thank-you so I can understand it in some ways.
@clarissajohal I've gotten in such the habit of saying thank you I think I'm going through withdrawal. haha I should have given that up for lent instead of reece's peanut butter products.
Thank you very much for the post. I thought that since the beginning of 2011 you are supposed to start a new discussion if you are on the pp and thank everybody and that I misbehaved because I did not do it. The truth is that I am not sure who is to be thank for being there. I tried to do decipher the rational leading to a pictures being on this page( I wanted to understand what does it say about my photography if I am there or not and to learn from it also ). The quality of the photo is not a necessary condition nor is it the number of time it was watched. That is what I found out so far, although it is a way for me to see some really fantastic pictures. Still, I like it very much if I find myself there, even at times for ten minutes only, if I happened to be on the site in those exact minutes.
Such words of wisdom and reticence are not exactly common on a public forum and I do feel bound to whisper a little word of tha... (sorry!) appreciation that this topic has been aired.
@yoelao i know what you are saying.
this popular page does not make much reason to me as yet. never know why some of my photos end up there or why others do not. i have no idea why some photos are on so long and some for a short time.
some photos on the pp are fantastic and some or just ok.
who really would a person thank?
@gill you probably couldn't find my message for all the thank you's rom me!!
You know, I didn't check this thread out because I thought it was one of those thank yous for getting onto PP. I did a thank people for one pic that, by my standards just went three times off the radar. It was for a picture that was particularly special to me.
I have also been a culprit of thanking all commenters on my pics individually, which was fine when I only got five comments - and let me tell you I was heartfelt grateful as hell for each and every one. However, I stopped doing that a few weeks back. I thought it was more important to spend that time commenting ...even taking the pics. I am suffering withdrawal symptoms even now and I have to stop myself from thanking people - but I have done. The sky hasn't fallen in. Anyway, this was a great and funny thread - Glad you did it. I think others are finding the thanking thing a strain and it will permit them not to do it.
Darn it. I heard there was a picture of Jesus on here, and I was going to come back and butt heads with the guy who said the tsunami was God's way of cleaning up the "bad" ones. Oh well, I'm sure the nut job will be back.
@petersonsheri I saw a thing earlier, snapshots of various retarded people setting their facebook status to things akin to "Japan's disaster is God paying them back for Pearl Harbor". Seriously.
@eyebrows I despair too. I am not a religious person, but I am very respectful of people's choices until they say something like that. How incredibly hurtful to all of the people who have lost their loved ones, and the children. It was actually a different discussion board that the guy wrote a long tribute to his god cleaning house, but I decided to take the higher road and let him live in his "crazy" land. I was just so angry, but I usually have to calm myself down and remind myself that it will do no good. :( I just need to think positive thoughts for the ones that are suffering. So incredibly sad.
@petersonsheri What gets me (apart from the ego trip of the supposed creator of the universe for some reason favouring "them" (whatever it is that actually delineates "them" from the rest of humanity)) is that these imbeciles see Japan as one single unchanging entity. Some people in charge 70 years ago decided to bomb America's navy (whether or not Roosevelt knew of it and let it happen) and now, despite those shot callers probably all being dead, Japan as some single entity is still deserving of punishment? You're right, in that there's just no reasoning with people who think like that. Frustrating to the extreme.

And thank you so so so much for making this thread!!!!!
(did you spy on my twitter posts? :p)

@tolpol yay swearing :D
@flamez no dramas, not like I'm the 365project po-lice or anything, and Troll Face being up there is to say "only poking fun" ;)

Nah that's my job ;)
I'm glad you realised it wasn't one of those once you saw it was mine, @amz87 :D

And of course he fit in perfectly on this thread!
