Took in my camera to get professionally cleaned ( boy did it ever need it...!!)
So again I'm not doing any photography again til I get it back on Wednesday.
I serioulsy needed to get it cleaned so that I can get that photo a day ( but haven't in a long time )
Anyhow.. I thought it was pretty expensive @ 60$ CND plus taxes.. but I guess it's worth it! I thought it was going to be around the 35$ dollar mark it was going to cost!!!
Have any of you gotten it cleaned professionally and how much did it run you?

I never got it cleaned. But it seems very expensive to me.

I've had mine cleaned twice. Once from Nikon, think it was $80 Cdn. And another place a few weeks ago $45Cdn.

It takes an hour or so to clean it... and $60 or so an hour is not that much to bill out.

Ever have your car detailed... it can cost $500-600 easy...

@melaniep I'm a member of Nikon Professional Services, so I get firmware updates and sensor cleanings for free (all I have to do is pay for shipping and handling, about $20). However, Nikon has equipment requirements before you can join. You must own two "professional" camera bodies and three "professional" lenses. Only the D200, D300, D700, and the D3 series count for bodies (so my D80 didn't) and the only lenses that count have to be fast f/2.8 or wider and all Nikkor brand. In short, I had to spend about $4,000 on equipment before I could join NPS.

However, there is a cheaper way for you: the Arctic Butterfly. I bought one of these because it takes five days to mail off my camera and get it back for a sensor cleaning. For $140 this is a no-fail, safe way to clean your sensor any time you want. I carry one in my camera bag at all times and it takes about 5 minutes to clean the sensor.

I clean mine myself. I got all my supplies for free, too, except for the rocket blower for $12. I'm too paranoid to send off my cameras...

@melaniep @lalola616 @bobg @jasonbarnette @hmgphotos @icywarm

I brought mine to a private retailer who is the most reputable in the city I live in.
I figured 60 bux wasn't that bad since I had brought many of my camera to him to do a quick good fix on and he never charged me.. but wow do the prices ever vary!

I am too scared to do any cleaning myself , since I really don't want to damage my camera at all and have it cost more to fix..

Thanks for all the responses :)

@melaniep There is a covering over the sensor, so you're not cleaning the actual sensor when you clean it. They're a lot tougher than you'd think. I've scrubbed mine on my D80 rather roughly with no ill effects. Big thing is just to remove all the large chunks first with a blower. I hardly ever clean mine, though. It's been nearly a year.

I second the Arctic Butterfly! My mom bought me one in Christmas 2009 from Amazon! I use it about once a month or so, depending on how much time I've spent with my camera.

Here I was quoted $50 for a full-service cleaning. I haven't done it yet because I'm wondering if it's really any more than what I can already do myself with the lock-up, the arctic butterfly and a blower? Can anyone answer that for me?

My brother cleans mine, he's going some fancy do-dads that do a pretty good job. My camera was once owned by a teenage friend of the family. Apparently she dropped it in the sand and now there are spots on the lens. It looks like there are grains stuck between the glass! I only see them when I shoot snow or clear sky..but I know there are there and it drives me MAD!
I asked the guy at Henry's and he said, to get my lens cleaned, it would be $140cnd. Is it just the body you are having cleaned up?
March 26th, 2011
@shutterbugger Body and lens.. I didn't even think of bringing it to Henry's..they's the one that quoted me 200-300$ to take off crappy extension rings of my body (it wouldn't come off ) and this place I brought it to didn't even charge me a dime! :) ::: same place as where I brought it to clean.. and he's doing my lenses too :)

Is he an independent shop? Sounds like an excellent deal! I guess I should be looking at the little guy? I am on the other side of Toronto than you...is it a chain?

I'm going to take mine to get cleaned too. It'll cost £32 for me and I can leave the camera for 4 hours which is great, I could do it by mail for £25 but don't want to ;eave it any longer then a day. I just need to get on to taking it now.

@shutterbugger No not a chain unfortunatly, but if you come to Windsor ever, he is "Photo Outfitters"
