Hi all, perhaps you can help me? Just got some close up filters for my 70-300mm lens consisting of +1 +2 +4 and macro. Stuck one on the front of the lens, but it wont focus! Manually or automatically. Anyone have any ideas? Apart from the one I have which is that I may well have been ripped off! Perhaps I am being a complete dingbat...perhaps they only work on prime lenses not zooms???
Hey, I have some, and I find that if I am too far away from the object then it won't focus. It needs you to stand closer than the camera would do normally. Also, I found that mine had a lot of smudges and stuff on them, so the first thing I did was to clean them really really thoroughly!
I have some, you have to use these lenes in the same way you would a magnifying glass.
You need to look through the lens while holding it, when you have a feel for it's focal length put it on your camera, then while holding the camera the right distance away focus and take your shot
Have had another go and yes, realised you have stand closer than normal to get the subject in focus. I resorted to manual focus as the whine of my zoom was constant and annoying! They were very cheap so not the best quality, but I did manage to get an almost decent shot of a sleepy bee. Should have researched more thoroughly as I wanted them for my water shots, but realised that the camera will have to be practically on the water for the the shots to be in focus. I assume that (if I could afford one) then a proper macro lens would mean i would have to be as close to the subject? I'm gonna have another play with the lenses, and see what I can get! Thanks for the replies. @cally@indiannie_jones@pete21
Still they were VERY cheap, and came with a free flower hood and portrait flash diffuser (seems an odd freebee with close up lenses!).
@pete21 yeah thats what I've been doing with the 300 end of my zoom. Just wanted to get even closer as my top end only does half life size.... Had some fun in the garden with the filters...
@pete21 I just got a set yesterday afternoon and only had a few minutes to try them out. I did figure out that you have to be close to the subject. My question is (and I'll probably figure it out as I play with them) do you have to get closer the higher the number or vice versa?

I managed to get this amongst others:-

@looseimages I use mine on my 50mm lens and use them for water shots... don't get too wet. :D
Funnily enough I've upgraded to a 70-300mm sigma lens now, I now do macro from about 3 foot instead of 3 inches.
