I have family in Arkansas and the storms got so bad my aunt for the first time in about 30 years had to use her storm cellar. Intense! Hope everyone is safe and sound.
we had a few thunderstorms today but nothing serious...we lost 20 lives about 2 weeks ago when we had a massive storm pass through with major tornados...hope everyone stays safe and listens to all warnings.
Yes, it's tornado time for those of us in "tornado alley." As I drove home the other night, after taking a pic of lightning (I know, duh), the tornado warning sirens were wailing. But you know what that means? That means everybody steps outside to see the storm. We are all bright, huh? What's ravaging Texas right now is wildfires - very scary. Extreme weather is fascinating but nothing to mess around with. I'm with @angievega, play it safe everybody!
My fiance is stationed in Arkansas, and they had a tornado a couple nights ago that did some pretty bad damage to the base as well as another tornado that devastated a small town nearby. Scary stuff. I'm glad to be in my little Pacific Northwest bubble with nothing but rain.
We got out of school at noon today. They're reporting a super-severe storm west of us in Tuscaloosa, but so far Birmingham, AL, is doing okay. Just lots of wind!
My kids haven't slept in 2 nights. We've had the loudest thunder I've ever heard. Tonight will be the 3rd night of storms, flooding, and tornado warnings... I bet another sleepless night with my young children. I live in NEPA (almost NY). I'm not even near tornado ally. US weather is crazy right now. I pray my 1800's farm house doesn't fall down!!!
I am O.K. The latest storms have gone around me. There has been a lot of rumbling, rain, and wind here. I pray for those in my state who have not been so fortunate. My state has been hit by tornadoes, high wind, hail and flooding. I find myself being very alert to the weather conditions. I glance at my severe weather alert radio more often than usual.
@meredithwb Almost all of my photos are taken in my house or in my yard but I don't think I have any of the full house. I'll take a few photos tonight or tomorrow. It looks like it is going to start to rain any minute now.
@schoolnsuch Right there with ya Amber! I am getting tired of hearing the warning "ding dong" bells on the TV! Storms give me migraines - so I have been dealing with headaches for three days now! I have co-workers in the Williamsport area who are under a tornado watch right now. Ugh!
We're good in North Texas. The storms have been really really good for some wildfires we've been battling over the last couple of weeks. I've enjoyed the clouds immensely. I hear AL, LA, and MS are in for some big ones tonight, so stay safe if you're there!
i live in virginia and we have a tornado warning in affect til 9pm. we had one a week ago that ripped apart a school. luckily it was after hours and no one was there. didn't think i'd have to worry about stuff like that here.
An F4 tornado blew through St. Louis last Friday...was all over the news. I live about 20 miles north. lots of rain, wind, and a light show. Too close for comfort. I know people that just got their power back yesterday.
I've been within a half mile of probably a dozen tornadoes in my life - one of them, I was digging through my sock drawer for my leatherman and a flashlight, on my way to the basement, when I felt my ears pop from the pressure drop. My area is still cleaning up from a batch of a half dozen tornadoes in 3 hours a couple weeks ago - several EF3's and one or two EF4's. They are impressive, powerful forces of nature - but not something to mess around with.
And yes, I am one of the idiots that when the weather radio goes off, I grab the camera, binoculars, portable weather radio, GPS, and jump in my pickup.
Hoping everyone is safe.
I live in Oklahoma, and thus far we've had a mild spring (but it's still early).
Alabama is experiencing something comparable to the May 3, 1999 Oklahoma-a super outbreak.
I'm in Indiana where it's not terrible, but there have been a lot of tornado warnings and a couple of watches. I do get a little concerned when we drive across the White River bridges and see it rising and rising as it continues to rain. Really there are very few homes that near the river. It's just scary to see nature get so powerful.
I want so much to take a photo of the river as high as it is, but that means I'd have to walk home from the university in the rain with my computer. I'm not _that_ dedicated to photography.
Parts of North Carolina have been hit pretty hard. I drove home from a school field trip yesterday (from Arapahoe, about 3 hours from Raleigh) and was able to see first hand how much damage there was in some areas. Pretty scary stuff. I usually don't worry about things like tornadoes, etc., but today we have another tornado watch in Wake County and I've decided to keep my kiddos home from school. I feel like a worrywart but....
I hope everyone keeps safe.
