Top secret, bright red, on public view ...

April 28th, 2011

I heard on BBC Radio today that a spokesperson for Royal Mail refused to tell an enquirer the locations of the bright red post boxes that stand on street corners all over the UK because it is commercially sensitive information. Perhaps we can help. There must be plenty of photo opportunities not only here but all over the world, so perhaps we could start a mini project here ....
April 28th, 2011
LOL
April 28th, 2011
How is that 'commercially sensitive information' ??? O_o
April 28th, 2011
Ed
@katiegc24 In case we go and use one of the other mail delivery companies. You know like ... um .... well there's ... no ... hang on .....

I didn't really think that through did I?
April 28th, 2011
@edpartridge Not really, no. That is one of the weirdest things I have ever read though! I think we should go on a 'red postbox hunt' and find them all and mark on a map where they all are and then sell it to Royal Mail for an extortionate amount of money so they can keep that information confidential. Or we could blackmail them with it. Free stamps for life or something..
April 28th, 2011
@edpartridge Bet you work for the post office HaHa cos they didn't think it through either. Or as Homer Simpson would say DOHHH!!
April 28th, 2011
Great idea, got one or two close to me. Won't tell you where, but I may go and photograph them instead!
April 28th, 2011
Ed
@katiegc24 Now that would just be silly. When do we start?
April 28th, 2011
I have found two more ... genuine, but so cunningly disguised that not even the postman will recognize them ... but I can't show you now because I've used my allocated space for today!
April 28th, 2011
@edpartridge June. That ok for you?
April 28th, 2011
Ed
@katiegc24 Sorted.
April 28th, 2011
@edpartridge Excellent. We need a map of Great Britain, cameras, transport and a trained sniffer-warthog. Which of those can you provide?
April 28th, 2011
Ed
@katiegc24 I can provide encouragement and an iron will.
April 28th, 2011
@edpartridge Well that's just not good enough. It takes more than that to tour the country looking for post boxes, you know.
April 28th, 2011
Ed
@katiegc24 You've not seen my iron will ...
April 28th, 2011
Seems we have a revolution in the making, but will it climax in a post horn gallop or The Last Post?
April 28th, 2011
@edpartridge Can you take photos with it? I'm sure it has good resolution, but I'm not convinced it has enough exposure yet..
April 28th, 2011
OK, I know of a secret postbox, I'll check it out later,make sure its still there.
April 28th, 2011
I swear there is a red post box just a few metres to the left of this shot...
April 28th, 2011
Ed
@wordpixman I was thinking more 'Mailman, bring me no more blues ..." or "Please Mr Postman".
April 28th, 2011
Ed
They're getting sneaky at the Royal Mail ... Look how they tried to hide the post box with a layer of snow and a carefully positioned push bike back in December.

April 28th, 2011
@katiegc24 Ican supply warthog if you find the trainer. Also we now know why we get late deliverys cos postman cant find the collection boxes as no one told them where they are.
April 28th, 2011
BEST......POST.......YET!!
April 28th, 2011
@hobgoblinwychwo excellent. Glad to hear someone has got their head screwed on the right way. Don't tell anyone, but.. I am actually a qualified warthog trainer! If you can send me the warthog ASAP I will get to work. The best way to send it? There aren't many specialist warthog couriers about, but if you can find a post box I am sure Royal Mail will handle it.

@petersonsheri Agreed. Why would they be so protective over the locations of post boxes?!?? O_O
April 28th, 2011
@katiegc24 lol!! I can't imagine why, unless they were afraid that someone wanting to know specifically where the red ones were had plans to bomb them or something. You never know what some people will do. Still, in my opinion, that is public information.

I was told that if you put a warthog in a phone booth and dial 411, the phone booth will turn in to a secret magical warthog transport vessell. The warthog will magically land in your bathtub!! Good luck, and don't let it eat Greg. :)
April 28th, 2011
@petersonsheri Sorry but if he don't get his his daily Gregs then he gets bad tempered, when I tried him in the transporter he landed in the bath tub ok but its know a mud hole where he wallows all day. @katiegc24 Kate have you got a good supply of Gregs for him,and I would not trust him to the Royal Mail cos they would probly lose him.
April 28th, 2011
@petersonsheri @hobgoblinwychwo oh no! Greg thinks it would be a good idea if he stopped 365 straight away and went into hiding from all the warthogs that might want to eat him. He says he is only one small rubber duck who gets easily scared.. And that posting photos of himself on the internet every day is only going to attract attention from bad people/warthogs.
April 28th, 2011
@katiegc24 Greg should definitely go in to hiding and only use his body double until the coast is clear!!
April 28th, 2011
@petersonsheri :O Body double? Where? :O
April 28th, 2011
Ours are blue. Can that help?
April 28th, 2011
Yes, I am sure they can be just as secretive as the red ones!
April 28th, 2011
@wordpixman ... I am so lovin it :-)
April 28th, 2011
@edpartridge That's very funny!
April 29th, 2011
great thread, so funny.
April 29th, 2011

They might think that these are well enough disguised, but I can tell you exactly where they are: The wooden one is in the National Railway Musem, York, and the green one is in its original colour, and is one of very few that escaped repainting. It stands outside Rochester Museum, Kent

Red PostBox Disguised As an U.S. Blue Mail Box

The ultimate Red Postbox disguise: posing as a U.S. Blue Mail Box on a university campus in Central Illinois, USA. hahahaha

April 29th, 2011
I so don't get why postbox locations are a secret....but I now have an urge to get a shot of our boring Australian ones lol
April 29th, 2011
They thought a white hat would disguise this one...

April 29th, 2011
@amz87 ... I think it was just a lazy excuse by a public crelations officer who could not be borthered to find a sensible reply to a simple question, but it has caused some amusement anyway..

@andycoleborn @edpartridge ... Good try, Andy and Ed!

@demetriceanntia ... very clever disguise!

@jannaellen ... I think I can just see it if I tilt the page!
April 29th, 2011

Maybe it's because there's an undercover mission going on to move them around the British Isles...here's a blue one in Guernsey...who knows, it may have been a red one once!!
April 29th, 2011
This thread is too funny!
April 29th, 2011
@wordpixman It does seem a little ridiculous lol.
April 29th, 2011
@wordpixman
Hey Arthur, here is a funny from the Internet that seems appropriate...
Post Box Fail
April 29th, 2011
I think one found its way to Plumstead, Cape Town and is secretly hiding outside a second hand shop - for sale!

April 29th, 2011
this thread is making me giggle :D
April 29th, 2011
@thebluegnu ... blimey! It says 'ordinary' but the colour is extraordinary! Well spotted!
April 29th, 2011

I took this yesterday... wow what a topic, this photo was made for this topic! LOL
April 29th, 2011
I think these top-secret undercover sheep found one here....
April 29th, 2011

Just wanted to keep it topical!!
April 29th, 2011
What fun! And what titles the last three suggest: "Little Red Driving Hood", "Baa, Baa Tracker Sheep" and "Kiss me Kate!" I think we are doing a better job than that guy at Royal Mail, don't you?
