Hi! Me again. No begging this time I swear. I've had several people over the last coupla months ask me about the tags I use on my pictures. First they weren't aware that you can tag your pictures with basically anything you want and second, they weren't aware that you can click on the tags to see all pictures on the 365 site that have that tag.
I looked up one day and boom, I had over 500 pictures posted to two albums. On a lazy Saturday afternoon I decided to start sorting through what I had. Using tags, I began to re-tag many of my pictures.
If you use a generic tag for your pictures, when you click on it, you will see every picture posted to 365 that has been given that tag. By everybody. For example bird, tree, flower, cat, boat, etc.
I decided to come up with some tag that no one else would think of so when I clicked on it, only MY pictures would come up. For example varmint, scm_cats, scm_birds, scm_eagles, gjt, wbs, etc. Now when I or anyone else clicks on the wbs tag in one of my pictures, the only pictures that come up are the ones I've taken at the World Bird Sanctuary. Click scm_cats and you'll see all the pictures I have taken of my cats. Click, scm_eagles and you'll see all my eagle photos. Click varmint to see all my squirrel shots. And so on and so forth.
A tag can be anything you want. If you can type it, it's a tag.
Try it! Or, you can click around my albums and click on the tags to see what I mean...oops, said I wasn't going to beg today :)~
As an ace member you don't need to go through the trouble of tagging your pictures with individual tags. You can just visit your stats, see the tags there and click on them. The only little problem is that tags only appear in that list, if they have been used more than twice, I think. But it's way easier than retagging. I also enjoy browsing by tag a lot ;). That begging squirrel is really, really cute!
@jannaellen Once you've clicked on a tag on your stats page, you can go to a separate page with all the tags you've used, also the ones you only used once.
@jannaellen hmmm...I'm an ace account holder but I do still have to add the tag to each picture to start. Unless I'm totally missing something. I can view all my tags on the stats page as you say but the tag still has to be in the individual picture. I'll keep experimenting with it all.
@msk1p2 it's a way of making your tags unique but when I'm looking for certain things I don't think of unusual tags so would be less likely to find work that wasn't generically tagged.
@voodoochild You're right. What I do is both. I give it "squirrel" or "eagle" as well as my own unique tags. People might see my picture in a squirrel grouping but then notice that I've indicated that all my own squirrel shots are tagged with "varmint" if they wanted to see the rest of my shots. I also use them myself if a friend asks to see my pictures, I can send them a link directly to the tagged page with only my squirrel or wbs shots with one link.
@eyebrows Yeah I learned that after I'd already done it...but it does kinda guarantee that no one else will even accidently think up my unique tag. Underscores are habit for me. The kind of projects I work on at my job require that there be absolutely NO spaces in any filename or links will break blah blah blah.
Haha i literally just type random words that come to mind, some relevant to my photo some not haha. Sometimes i just copy the last text message i recieved into the tag box and tag my photos with that haha
I just write stuff. Some of it is things people might search for, if they wanted photos of a specific thing. Sometimes it's just because it's funny, like in my photo of Greg the Duck sitting on a huge pile of easter eggs, I tagged "om nom nom" and "too much chocolate" - not because people will search for that, but because if anyone reads the tags at any point, then hopefully it'll put a smile on their face.

I am a compulsive tagger myself :)
ive seen some awesome tags about , particually liked one that said something like ThereAreNoBirdsInThisPhoto ..... some really give me a laugh !
So you don't need to do scm_cats, you could have "scm cats" for a more natural look
