Giving a gift of a print

May 30th, 2011
Hi everyone,

I need some advice. A friend is going through a tough time, and she expressed interest a few months ago about purchasing one of my prints. Now I would like to give it to her as a gift, but I cant really afford to get it printed large onto canvas for her, and I think just giving it to her on disc seems a bit tacky. So how do I give it to her without blowing my budget but also making it seem like a nice gift?

depending on your budget there are a few sites that can do canvas at a decent price or maybe just a nice 8x10 print?

Having expressed an interest in your photography, I think she'd be quite touched to receive an 8x10 of your work. What a nice gesture that would be!

If you in the USA, you can get a "free" 8x10 canvas from www.winkflash.com. You just pay for shipping. Something to look into.

You could also, print the size you want and matt it with a nice frame.

Im in Australia, so everything is so expensive here, to get a decent canvas is around $100+

when I want to do something special I too get a regular 8x10 printed then I mount it and sign the mount in the bottom right corner, mounts are not that expensive and they add to the look of the photo sometimes if I am feeling really flush I frame it too :)

@asrai I was just going to suggest the same thing!
@triptych_angel I think your friend will be touch by any gesture no matter how small you think it is :D

I don't have anything to add, but that's a wonderful idea and I'm sure your friend will appreciate it.

while a canvas is nice, you may want to consider getting a black metal frame at 11"x14" (sorry, while I grasp the metric system, the conversion is a struggle late at night) and then do a matte print of the photo at 8"x10inches. You could so the matt in white, cream, black or grey depending on the photo. While she may have wanted a canvas version, she will probably be touched. I see that you have costco in Australia and they do reasonable prints here in the U.S. Also art stores near art colleges should have a great frame selection.

just enlarge it to say 11 x 14 and then just put a mat aound it

Emma - I am in Oz and see a number of special offers on canvas on an ongoing basis on the buyii.com.au website. There are at least 3 offering discounts today. I am not sure of the quality, but they seem to offer money back guarantees and shipping in free. Worth a look - and these change daily so others may come online in the next few days.
Lovely idea tho - good luck with decision on what to go with.
PS- I do not have anything to do with this website, just use it myself for restaurants, hotels, etc.

Thanks everyone, I think I may just go with the 11 x 14 option!

you might as well try shutterfly for affordable and quality prints.

Am I the only one who's curious as to which photo @triptych_angel is going to pick?
May 30th, 2011
@marinda This is the one she wanted

@triptych_angel OH BEAUTIFUL!

What I did for my photos recently was put them on a foam backing board. Looks quite nice and professional and was only $5 for the backing board + whatever it costed for the A3 matte print. Got the board from an art store.

Great idea though, sure she'll love it no matter how it is given.

@marshy15 Yep I think im going to go to an art store and see what they have.
