Who is this little guy?

We had a surprise guest today setting up for the Memorial Day party. It looks like a butterfly, but I couldn't tell. Any ideas? We're in Phoenix, AZ right now.

I live in AZ and I'm pretty sure it's a type of moth! I dont know for sure what kind it is but you could look up AZ moths on the computer and maybe you would happen to come by one that looks like this one! Hope that helps! And I hope I'm correct! :P lol.

@emmytheshort - Thanks for the reply. I wondered if he might be a moth due to his size. We had a few butterflies out today, but they wouldn't play nice for pictures.

It's a Skipper, probably Hylephila phyleus the Fiery Skipper. Cute.

Definitely a Skipper. Looks a lot like one I have on my project. There are SO many different types though so it's hard to tell. The way to tell whether it is a butterfly or a moth is that when butterflies land they hold their wings upright and when moths land they fold their wings down on their bodies.

Interesting! We got no Skippers in Sweden, never heard of anyway, and when I read about them they don't seem to like it cold :)
