@niara nah, you're not alone... i'm still full-on nikon.
however, i will say that brittany made the right choice for her by selecting the one that "felt right".
seriously, canon and nikon both have such long and proven histories of quality production that, except for the most advanced professional users, it really does come down to usability. in my case, i've never felt comfortable using canon (d)slrs, yet i feel perfectly at home with all the buttons and switches and knobs on all the nikons i've ever had.
My "upgrade" ( :D ) from Olympus to Nikon was through comfortability. Im a big fan of Canon (shhhh dont tell anyone :) ) but for the price range i was looking at, I had a friend with the Nikon D90 and i had used it before many times. So i followeed that because i knew i could skip all the new jitters that accompany buying a new brand with new button layout etc.
So here i am with a Nikon, wishing i had a Canon, but overjoyed with a Nikon :D:D:D
@marshy15 you have a serious case of multiple personality disorder- hehehehe :D
As for camera brand- I shoot with a Sony. I have tried a Canon and wasn't comfortable with it. Haven't had a chance to shot a Nikon yet- I guess the most important thing is how instinctual the camera feels to the user
@niara yes I could but unfortunately I know the camera I want so that option isn't a reality at the moment. If photography was more important to me that other hobbies I could get one but its a little way down my pecking order at the moment. One day though :-)
@joshuaramey The Pentax medium format is a beauty (especially for the price). But no - not since film days (my only working film camera now is a Mamiya RB-67).
they are all good! pentax, canon, olympus, fuji, nikon... i do love my canon thou...think what's most important is knowing what kinds of shots you will be taking and how the features in the camera match that and then how the camera feels in your hands and when you look through the viewfinder.
Um, I think you've re-opened the debate today. ha ha
Personally I'm a Nikon fanatic. Nothing compares, I've never had a problem with mine, and I'd never even consider a change to Canon...my Nikon is part of the family....it's my baby!! =)
I don't have any issues with nikon or any other camera.
But as I said, I chose the one that felt right for ME.
Not to experts or reviews or anything else.
Well, obviously.
:)

in some respects, it really is that simple. :-)
I wonder, how about looking for a second-hand one? Often people upgrade and sell their old cameras, and often they are still in good condition.
Rock on Nikon. Have not been able to fault mine at all.
