I bought a Fuji Finepix S2940 because I found it for a good deal but had really been saving for a Nikon Coolpix L120. I have a couple of weeks to decide or I won't be able to take it back. Please help me decide what I should get....I am on a limited budget being that I am eleven years old and currently not old enough to work:) HELP!!!!!!!!!
i would swap it for the nikon,my mother in law has a fuji and she dfoes nothing but moan about it and how slow it is,she also has trouble seeing the screen in any sort of sunshine
I used to work at a camp for 6 years. With new kids coming to camp each week, I got to see all different types of cameras. And almost every week it was the same thing... someone was having trouble with their Fuji camera. I personally think they are the worst! I actually call them "Footchi" which is a slang word in Spanish for stinky.
Anyway, I would go for a Nikon. But even I have had to hold back and got myself a Canon PowerShot. I do love Canon when it comes to point-and-shoots (they make great DSLR's too). But Nikon DSLR's are great because they have lenses that go with almost every one of their models making it nicer if you ever upgrade on your camera.
The Panasonic Lumix series are my favourite point-and-shoots. Great lens quality and image quality for such "cheap" cameras. Koshi has a Canon and it's quite nice, and I've had a play with the Nikons and they're quite nice too. I'd avoid the Fuji, like has been said (though the S2 was decent in its day). But when it comes to image quality (on a pocket camera), it's always Lumix for me, with current models at least.
I've had a Canon Powershot and my current Panasonic Lumix. They are both excellent cameras, but I'd have to give the edge to my Panasonic Lumix because of the lens quality.
@jinximages I'm going to hijack this real quick to ask you because I've never used either - for a concert, which would hold up better: Lumix TZ20 or Canon S95? The Canon can go as wide as F/2 if I'm not mistaken but the Lumix is a good zoomy camera. Help pleeeease?
I fall into the Canon camp, they take fabulous pictures, Nikon do great camera's too, however I was told that there P&S isn't up to scratch compared to there DSLR. The Canon S90/95 are awesome
@indiannie_jones Between those two, I'd actually go for the Canon. Assuming that you could get close enough to the action, that is - that F/2 is almost one-and-a-half stops better than the Panasonic, plus it has a higher ISO rating (which means more noise, of course, but better a noisy image than a blurry one). But if you can't get close enough, well, the extra aperture and ISO aren't going to help. The S95 has had some real nice write-ups, so it's not a hard choice to make in this equation, assuming the zoom fits your bill. :)
@jinximages Really? Well, the definite one was booked by my cousin and he told me he got us balcony seats on the side so I think that's a bit far. Hmm. Thanks :D
I say Panasonic Lumix range is super, I'm currently looking on the internet for a new one and there is such a nice range, they're expensive, but not compared to other cameras and on ebay I've seen recent point and shoot models for £50 which is under $100.
I've been a high school newspaper/yearbook adviser for years so we've gone through a lot of P&S cameras. I've had really good luck with Panasonic, Nikon, and Canon (until recently). The last batch of Canon cameras (SD1200) were horrible and I'm very disappointed. I would choose a Panasonic P&S.
On a side note....about three years ago we got six Nikon D40 cameras and the kids LOVE using those and they've really held up considering how much they get used. High school kids are pretty rough on stuff!
ah see if i am choosing from all makes i go lumix, that's what i have and it is brilliant, have a look through my project for an idea of what the lumix can do, i have about 20% taken with it i think
