Hi all, I am in the US only for a couple more days and have been camera browsing. Right now I use a biggish little point-and-shoot, a Kodak Z-915 ( http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=kodak+z+915&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=4106017675&ref=pd_sl_7rphu7gax_e ) with a 10x opt. zoom. I have been debating whether or not to get something better around $300 or less, or wait until I am out of Peace Corps and go for a better DSLR. Don't want to spend the big bucks right now as I am pretty broke and I don't want to risk that much money getting stolen in Ecuador. Anyway, I have looked a little at the Nikon Coolpix L120 and an Olympus SP- 800UZ. Suggestions? Experience with those or similar? Guidance, oh gods of photo taking?
AND I really want something with manual settings I can play with.. on my current camera I can change iso, f-stop, shutter speed, flash... dont want to lose that!
Don't get a Nikon Coolpix, I had one and HATED it. However I have found Canon to always be reliable. I recommend looking at used DSLRs, I spent a lot of money on mine and was nervous to do so, but I haven't looked back since I began using it!
I have the Nikon Coolpix and I think it's a wonderful camera. It has so many features and settings, I'm still trying to learn them all but I would say it is definitely worth the money.
