Yosemite National Park - any suggestions?

July 10th, 2011
I'm taking a spontaneous trip for a couple days this week. I'm looking for off-the-typical path suggestions for photo locations. I appreciate any thoughts!

The shuttles will take you just about anywhere. If you have a car, take it up to Glacier Point. Hike out to Sentinel Dome. Views from up there are spectacular.

The Mist trail to Vernal Fall is wonderful, but very wet. hence the name.

Sunset, either be up at the Wawona Tunnel vista point for the light to fall on El Capitan and Half Dome, or if you just want Half Dome, then try I believe it's sentinel bridge. The shuttles drop you off and pick you up there after leaving the main village area.

Tuolumne Meadows is picturesque. Only two days? not enough time for Yosemite.

Probably the most "off typical" would be Sentinel Dome. Not many people go out there. The Wawona Grove is neat for pictures of Big trees. There's also a covered bridge and a living history area in the Wawona area.

Another area not visited much, but more difficult to get to would be Hetch Hetchy. Reservoir that supplies the city of San Francisco with water.

Looking forward to seeing your shots. I haven't been there in years, but used to go almost on a yearly basis.

Thanks @webfoot . We've been to the valley floor several times, and I wanted to focus more on the outskirts of the park. I agree two days is really not enough, but oh well....we'll be driving mostly, so we can get up at sunrise. Based on what I have found so far it looks like Tuolumne Meadows and surrounding areas. I think some of what you pointed is in that area. Thanks!

Actually, Glacier Point, Sentinel Dome and Wawona are in the opposite direction of Tuolumne Meadows. The Meadows are to the north of the valley, while the others are to the south.

when I was there the northern road was still not open. I really enjoyed the drive from the Valley Foor to Hetch Hetchy.

@webfoot right, but it's outside the valley floor, which would be good this year. @brumbe I knew it was, but according to their site the route is open now. I hope so!

Any place in Yosemite Valley makes a great picture. I have been to over a dozen national parks and Yosemite is in my top two. (Just came back from Glacier Bay National Park.)
