This afternoon it started taking white images outdoors, ghostly images indoors and the odd ones that did come out had hundreds of lines across like you get from tv photos, which i noticed the other day when i did my dragon shot.
Canon have said to send it for repair, but i thought i'd call up the authorised repair centers first as there are 3. One said its an optical unit that they don't make anymore so is not fixable, the other 2 i can't get hold of til tomorrow.
Argh! - looks like i may have to be getting a new camera - any advice on what is good at the moment but not a DSLR as a) can't afford b) want it smallish
I can't help with the "want it smallish" part. If I want a small camera(although I usually never do. Definitely known for taking my DSLR everywhere) I whip out my iphone.
I love my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35. It's a bridge camera with 18x zoom. It has a kick ass Leica lens, you can take about 300 pix before needing to charge the battery (and that's with lots of setting changes and viewing of already taken pix), and it's lightweight. Cost: about $300. Amazon reviews, mostly 5 stars. :-)
a lumix for a compact or if you can get one try a used nikon d40,they are quite small and light compared to newer models, they don't have the all singing and dancing extras that the newer ones have but they do a more than adequate job, mine was £240 with 2 lenses and a bag off ebay which is about the same price as a new model lumix of decent spec
@meggageg Your absolutely right! I turn in my old cameras when I've "outgrown" them because I got my first DSLR that way. They work great and I've never had any issue from them. I don't know if I will ever buy new - because of the cost - but I know that I will always check for a used one first.
The Micro 4/3rds format is great for near-DSLR quality images, compact size, and interchangeable lenses. I've taken some fantastic shots with a Panasonic DMC-G2K. The camera body is $300, and then you have an array of reasonably priced lenses to choose from at B&H Photo; you can also buy them new/used/refurbed on Amazon. Good luck!
Not as cheap as regular P&S but very small and get great result even in quite poor light conditions - Canon S 90 or the newer S91. I have many pictures taken with it in my project and love it more than my former Canon G11.
I have a Canon Powershot SX110 (it's a couple years old now.. so there must be a newer model out), and I absolutely love it. It's compact enough to take around everywhere, but still takes good quality photos.
I agree with @pennymilner and @stepheesue .....I bought a Canon S90 a year ago. I use it equally as much as my Canon 20D and I love it!!! The S90/95 are compact.....has all the options like my 20D......the only thing it doesn't do is changing lenses. As for the G12.....a little bigger than the S95.....used my friends G12. Nice camera. I was told that the G12 and the S95 are the same camera insides......but I would not swear on that. If you have the money.....I would recommend either.
had a look at the g12 but the optical zoom on it is so small, not sure about it - puts me off, know it has a good lense, but can that really compensate. i liked the look and feel of the powershot s30 - 35 optical zoom too
