looking to upgrade

Hey all- I have been using Paint Shop pro x2 ultimate for about a year now, and have been mostly happy with it, but I'm looking to upgrade. I would love to be able to use actions which Photo Shop has tons of, but Paint Shop is seriously lacking in. Also, PS has tons of texture layers and PSP is also lacking in this area. I love being able to use layers and masks. So given this information which product do you all suggests that is not seriously expensive?

PS Elements 9 is quite good, for a cut-down version of PS. Much better than previous incarnations of the software.

Buuuut, if you qualify for Education Discount, get the full CS5 version. You won't regret it. Don't worry about the "Extended" option if you don't qualify and decide to get CS5 - it has nothing useful for photography IMO (but the non-Extended version has no Education version, so you get the extra bells and whistles automatically with edu edition).

Rebbecca you can get the student edition because you have kids in school. That is how I got my copy of CS4

@andifree @jinximages I have kids in elementary school...would that qualify? Is the student version any different than the regular edition?

@cohare my kids are in high school so I didn't really pay attention but it may qualify. there is no difference that I know of between them

@cohare To my knowledge they would need to be in High School, but the version is identical to the normal retail version.
