battery power indicator

I know I should have a back up battery, I will do , but I don't yet.
My camera shows a strip of light on the screen which is supposed to inform you how much power is left.
Goes, green, amber, red.

My problem is that it will show amber, and then when I've turned it off and on again it shows green.....so I'm no entirely sure which to believe. I don't want to charge it before I need to as I don't want to reduce the life. It doesn't show green and go to amber, it stays green. Next time I turn it on it'll be amber....and then green.

Probably really simple and I"ll go duh.

Also when do you recharge your battery, when it's 75% depleted or more?

Hmmm not sure. But I charge mine just about at 80%. Mine does say lower batt when I am using my flash..Its kinda strange. Hope you get someone who knows better then I do!

A battery will often show a higher charge than it really has when an appliance is first switched on. You will likely find that after a few minutes it will once again show amber.

My camera shows bars for how much charge it has. The camera will show a lower charge when I am on a macro setting. According to the manual, I should be charging the battery when the indicator starts blinking. I have a back up battery and this has helped me.

If it's a lithium ion battery, it won't retain a memory and shorten the life.

I have 2 batteries, and if I know I'll be using it a lot I'll charge them both regardless of how full they are before I head out. But, most often I just forget to watch it and figure it out when it dies on me.

Also, I know some electronics come with an "estimated battery usage remaining" indicator instead of an actual battery indicator, based on most recent usage, so that may be why yours changes colors after power cycling.
