Camera question:

I thought since you are all camera experts on here:

My daughter's camera keeps needing the date and time reset everytime she turns it on even though it has new batteries in it. It just started this. Does anyone have a clue what would cause that? It's a Canlon Powershot SX120IS

Yes - there is another battery in the camera that would need replacing - usually this is a tiny "watch battery" and may not be accessible by you (the shop would replace it for you). They typically last 5 years or so, but can run out in as little as two. Even the large, pro DSLR units have them.

thanks! I will see if I can get it replaced.

I have that camera too...the battery jinx is talking about is located on the left side (if you were trying to take a photo) - very easy to get to and replace yourself. It takes a CR1220 battery. Only problem I'm encountering is that it doesn't seem to be a standard size battery; I've looked at Target and one other place and haven't found it. It was suggested to me that I check Best Buy though I haven't done that yet. You can probably find them online though, or maybe at a specialty battery place.

Antwhere that replaces watch batteries should have this battery in stock & will be able to fit it for you.
If you fit it yourself, do not touch the battery with your fingers - use a piece of tissue or similar as the grease on your fingers is enough to cause a short circuit across the battery & battery life will be drastically reduced as a result.

Jinx is correct, it's the cmos battery. When putting the new one in be sure to wear gloves or stand on a static mat. I ruined a camera once because I had too much static in me and it discharged into the camera ruined the battery to :( it was a cheapie Kodak Easyshare, no worries.

It was actually left out in the rain -- in the case -- and we took out the batteries (not that one) and let it dry out for a day. It works fine, but maybe that battery was ruined. Thanks everyone for your help! @jinximages @meshinka @sburbidge @suzk
