we have a store in town called cex, they sell electrical stuff, games, dvds etc that people have traded in, in the window today they had a canon eos 350(i think) with 16-55 lens for £180 and a nikon d60 with same lens for £260, i couldn't afford the nikon and i already own that lens but i was tempted to ask what they wanted just for the camera body but i could have stretched to the canon and had 2 different make cameras to play with,i think i showed great restraint in not buying either of them,i am tempted however to ask about trading in my d40 against the d60 do you think it would be worth it?
i loved my d60!!! and the only reason i am not still using it is because my dear friend bought me a d90 :o) No harm in asking them, see if you can talk them down in price a bit!
I don't think there's that much difference between the D40 and D60, so I wouldn't spend money to "upgrade". Far better to put any money towards a D90 or D7000 even if you have to save up longer. They will get you real improvements in picture quality.
I also don't think I'd buy a Canon body since you can't swap lenses with your Nikon body.
If you want to spend money, get a tripod, a good flash, or maybe a macro lens or close up filters?
