Canon 550D or 600D ??

August 5th, 2011
well, i've been absent for a while here ... and a week ago we had a break-in at home and my camera was one of the items stolen ... so i need some help please.

my camera was a 450D, and is a deleted model now, insurance will cover replacement, but i want to know which way i should go ... the 550D or th e600D. i've looked online and i can't really tell the difference between them apart from slightly larger dimensions on one and slightly different prices.

also, depending on how the insurance is paid out, i may be able to get a 60D instead, which means only the standard lense, but would it be worth it ??? i raretly use the zoom anyhow, only for moon shots really. hmmm

can anyone cut through the specs and recommend for me ??

please and thanks :))

The 550D and the 600D are actually very similar, the biggest difference is the 600D has a flip out LCD screen which can help a lot for some photos, and help even more with video. SO the 600D is the best choice out of those two. The 60D however is also a great camera, it's a little bigger and more solid, also has the flip out LCD screen and has built in wireless flash triggering. The 60D has the exact same 18 megapixel sensor as both the 550D and the 600D so it will take the same lenses you already use so don't worry about that. So I'd say if money allows get the 60D, and if not get the 600D.

sorry about your break in - how distressing - just to say i have the 550D and love everything about it - it takes great photos - isnt hard to learn and quite light in comparison to many dslr - the guy in the camera shop said the specs for the 550d and 600d were the same - just the flip out screen was different. Dont know anything about 60d, sorry. Hope this helps : )

ah no, thats bad about the breakin but good that you get to buy new toys lol. If it were me and insurance covered it all, i've weasel my way to a 60D. If not then 600D and lastly 550D.

They're all great cameras but there have been a few instances where I thought to myself "if only I had a fully articulated screen (thats the flip out screen), I could shoot this better...". I actually had this moment a few nights ago when I was trying to get an image of my cat with the camera on the floor.

Nod
I'd get either a 60D or a 600D for that flexy screen just to have more angle to play with!

I would take the money I got, and add some of my own and get the 7D.

I got the 600D a few weeks ago and haven't looked back
It actually does have a wireless flash trigger, though I'm hanging out for a birthday or Christmas to get a compatible SpeedLite :-)

The 60D just wasn't in my budget and I decided the flipout screen and wireless flash trigger was worth the tiny bit extra than the 550D

It's my first DSLR and I'm still learning, so take all that with a grain of salt, but I love this camera!

The 550D, 600D and 60D are pretty much the same camera. I like the 60D because it has a nice heft to it and navigating the controls is much easier with my eye on stuck to the viewfinder. If these things (and the flexy screen) doesn't matter, you can go with the 550D and not miss a thing.
