Doing a wedding in a few weeks first time! renting equipment and I want to make sure what i plan on renting seems okay.. Let me know! I have a nikon d3000
Thanks!!
Have you done a wedding before? Are you doing just candid shots, or formals as well? Are you a "second shooter" or the primary photographer?
If you are shooting the cermony from some distance away, you may need something like a 70-200mm. How are you using the flash, on camera or off?
If you are the primary photographer, you might consider a 2nd body so you can have a wide/normal zoom on one, preferably a full frame body, and a longer lens on the D3000. Make sure to have spare batteries.
I've not shot a wedding, but I think a 24-70mm might be more useful than 14-24mm. You don't want to distracting being up close to the people you're photographing.
What you've chosen is possible, but you will struggle to get those detail shots (especially during the ceremony). The 24-70 is my most-used lens at weddings, and I don't bother shooting anything wider (on a full-frame body) - the 14-24 would be a good supplementary lens, but as a second to a prime? Maybe not so great.
My kit is:
5D Mark II (sort-of equivalent to a D700)
24-70 f/2.8
85 f/1.2
70-200 f/2.8
580 EX-II x2 (SB900 equivalent, two of)
plus a 400D fitted with a 60mm macro for closeups of rings etc.
Also, I always have a second shooter, usually with a kit almost mirroring mine. If anything breaks, we have backups and overlaps.
@mikew This is my first wedding, I am the primary shooter. Plan to do both candids and formal. Also indoors and outdoors.. Using flash/strobe indoors and no flash outdoors.. I won't be very far away from most of the ceremony. But still considering the 70-200 would be best? Or could I be okay with a 24-70? Also I will have an extra body with me. Camera that is, shooting alone on this one!
Thank you!
