Photoshop advice please!

Hi All. Could someone please give me some tips on how to make the drops in this picture not look so "processed"? I originally used the magnetic lasso to select the drop and then just changed their colors, but the outlines look way too obvious. Thanks!

Lower the opacity on them. Also...you could adjust the blending mode...try all of them until you get the one you like. (both of those options are in the layers tab off to the right...in case you needed that info!)

Have you used layering? I use Magic Extractor or Magic Eraser and then Layer. I used to use lasso but didnt like the edging.

@triplescoop Hi Andrea. For me, a little soft-edged eraser will simply do the trick.

lasso can be a bit hit and miss even when you feather the edges, I would create a new raster layer and using a paintbrush paint in the drops in your desired colours, set the raster layer to overlay give it a slight gaussian blur and adjust the opacity until it looks how you want it.I am sure there are quicker ways but that technique has never let me down

Thanks for taking the time to help :) You all rock my world. I'm going to try each of these over the next few days... stay tuned for the results :)

Here are some possibilities

1) When you first select them, feather the edges (select > modify > feather)

2) Rather than selecting them into a layer, use a layer mask
a) do a B&W adjustment layer
b) paint black in the mask where you don't want B&W (over the drops)
c) once you have the mask, you can either apply a gaussian blur to the mask, or go into mask options and you can feather there too.

3) Make the B&W portion of the image not so B&W, maybe 80% opacity, so there is a little color in the background.

4) Lower the saturation in the drops so they aren't so colorful and don't stand out

I always try to get people to get Remask 3 from Topaz Labs. it's a plugin for Photoshop that is simple to use. It makes masking quick and easy.
